  1. I've always hated the idea of retail + venue. I've seen it, I just don't like it. So much shit already gets stolen if you're not watching it. I like the idea of an adjacent venue though. Maybe a restaurant/bar that has a stage and then move the tables for a dance floor. Kind of like the one from Hellraiser 3. That's what Northern Lights Lounge does (or did when I was there.) Stage has a railing that comes up and they put all that in the back storage and bring it out again at the end of the night, every night. It was kind of a pain in the ass but sometimes I'd help out since most of the staff was cool as hell. I still miss Lockwood and Kegger. Anyway, I've had ideas for years. The problem has always been a lack of motivation, and also money.
  2. Bernie is too old, just like Ron Paul. I thought either one of them would have been great since I think they're both respectable (though I'm not a huge fan of Bernie.) No third party ever has a reasonable shot though. It's just how the system is designed. If it turns out that one does win then whoever it replaces will be the new third party.
  3. I would if I could remember them. Ask Linzi Clark about it if you ever run into her. There was also a long standing rivalry with I-Rock, but as I found out later everyone stole shows from everyone else. Just business I guess but still sucks. Ted and Steve had no issues kicking larger shows to other venues (usually Harpo's) when they thought a show would be too large for their venue. Though they could have been talking smack just to talk smack I've never heard them complain as much about other similar venues like Hayloft, The Ritz, The Token, Majestic, etc... The few times I did go (and this is long ago now) were nothing special. I honestly can't recall anything great or terrible happening. But I can't remember who I saw there either or what I had for breakfast a week ago. The noggin usually hangs onto the important stuff. Anyway, I might dislike it but YMMV. Also it's far, fuck that drive. Although if I can get my friend Brett who lives up that way to go maybe it'd be worth the trip.
  4. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that any of the cartoons I mentioned were for kids. Still, that's what many ended up being. It's really not much of a secret. You can smell them (quite often literally.) I know "All in the Family" was racist as hell (at least Archie anyway) but I thought that was sort of the point. The old guy was out of touch and mostly meant well except when he was a gigantic asshole. I don't really remember "The Jefferson's" and "Good Times" as being all that racist but I haven't really seen it in years. It's hard to imagine shows targeted toward black people as being racist though, but they were produced by white people so I wouldn't be surprised. I wonder what got toned down over the years. I remember watching "Amen" on a TV I had in my room, then later shows like "Martin" and "A Different World" too. Those were so long ago though I don't really remember any of them (I just remember Gina was hot as hell.) I do remember being a kid and watching that episode of "Fresh Prince" where they got pulled over and Carlton was so rich he didn't know what the real world was like. That episode pretty much played out like I thought it would. The only thing really missing in that was any accountability for the cops, so it was pretty much just like real life. But yes, thanks for the major background. You could probably write a literal book on it.
  5. Yes, that's why that song was overplayed to fuck. But as far as nights go, if I could have one thing it would be a daily 24 hour goth hangout/coffeehouse/clubhouse/nightclub/restaurant thing. People could just show up whenever and hang out/work on things. There would be a DJ or canned music playing. Back rooms for "stuff". The problem is most places hate anything that is "cool" because they think it involves drugs (because it usually does) or they just don't like alternative things in their town because they're usually filled with people society views as deviant (and not the actual bad kind of deviant like Nazis/KKK/etc... but rather people who they deem amoral/unethical.) So anyway, step one is corrupting the youth getting them into the fashion and the music...
  6. The only question worth asking. Too bad it's at The Machine Shop though, fuck that place. All I hear are horror stories from it. I'll admit it has a neat decore/setup though.
  7. No, it just lies that if you work hard enough you can make it to the top of the food chain, and that your aren't a slave to your corporate masters. You're free to leave and go find a new master any time you like (unless you're a felon, in which case good luck finding any work at all.) Also that everyone needs to pay their "fair share" when they make everyone at the bottom pay way too much and everyone at the top pay not nearly enough. Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled program:
  8. Did you completely miss the part after that when I said: ?
  9. You make some connections and start promoting the nights. Get a following going. If you can show venue owners a guaranteed crowd they'll be all about it. Bill it as a Halloween season thing and then just keep doing it after. I mean it is Halloween season all the time, right? I know it's overplayed, but it's so, so fitting. It needs to make a comeback (but not all the time.)
  10. But seriously, again capitalism isn't evil it's just corporatism that is the evil thing that fucks us all. Name a better economic system that isn't communism, I'll wait (and no socialism doesn't count as we already have that too.)
  11. Yeah, there's a reason for that. As far as ages go, at this point anyone under 25 is a literal child. It's almost like they speak a different language entirely. Most of them see us as we see the boomers. Some are okay, I get respect and I'm more than willing to give it back. Most just seem to avoid me though which is fine by me. Actually that seems to be most people in general unless they need something.
  12. I saw that video on Reddit. At least the pilot ejected.
  13. Well Tron hasn't said anything YET. She's really easy going honestly. I don't think the others really pay attention and if they do maybe they've matured enough to appreciate adult humor by now. Not that I'm trying to scare anyone off the board, but I hate kids and if threads like this keep them away then I love threads like this. Let them go find and play on 4chan instead, the "adults" are busy. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/where-is-your-god-now
  14. I'm addicted to air. J/K, sorry to hear that. It's just one more cost that needs to be paid. Hopefully you have insurance which covers it. It's really just an art style though. There are many fucked up cartoons. Animaniacs was just wrong, and Tom & Jerry could get really really fucking dark. Other really fucked up old cartoons: Animal Farm Watership Down Fritz the Cat Not to mention the blatant racism and sexism in those old shows too. At least it's far less of a problem these days though. Though I've heard Adventure Time is pretty messed up later on, but I've yet to see it (it's on my list.) Newer and fucked up includes South Park and some of what Seth MacFarlane does (especially American Dad.) I remember older anime and that was alright too. Quite literally all of Studio Ghibli's work is good too, though I haven't seen that all either. Unless that's what you're referring to. You obviously know far more than I do though because you're very submersed in the culture, but that's just my perspective.
  15. All of the people on that list back. (Some of them just far away from me though.) Maybe keeping my health too. Something actually attainable though? I guess more DJ gigs might be nice.
  16. They're changing again in weird ways. I remember hearing about NIMBY Democrats a decade ago before the hyper inclusion. Remember when they were all against gay marriage? It was during/just after those Pepperige Farm commercials aired. There are a couple of actual conservatives left with some sanity, but they seem to be jumping off that ship as fast as possible and going Dem/3rd/ind. Some refuse to leave because they think it's "their party" and they refuse to see its name sullied by the likes of Trump. They want to take it back and I think it's a losing battle. Welcome to the Tea Party 13 years ago when they stole that from the Libertarians. I get that MAGA was created rather than stolen but the effect of using it to steal the party was the same.
  17. I'm still concerned that you may be having an adverse reaction to it, possibly from an infection. Hopefully they gave you some antibiotics just in case.
  18. I try not to make assumptions. I also know/knew a few former addicts too, some of which didn't make it and are going on 15 years "sober." Like Doug Stanhope says: "There's no such thing as addiction, there's only things that you enjoy doing more than life."
  19. I don't see it. I mean yes, the right is bad but that's because they are the loudest, and that's mostly just entitled boomers complaining, and they're dying off which is both good and bad. The Liberals are scarier because they'll be around for far longer. I'm mostly in agreement with them except on two points. The first is that they want to take away ALL the guns (eventually, not right now.) A disarmed populous is far easier to control. The second is that social media has been shitting on capitalism as the source of everything wrong with the country/world for a long time now. Some people actually believe that bullshit too. I agree crony capitalism is bad, but that's because corporatism is bad and those fucks are the ones running the government. Get corporations out of government and maybe it will function a bit better.
  20. From what I understand of your home life I can understand that. I have a friend who dives into his work as much as he can because he doesn't want to deal with the battleaxe at home. "To be free is often to be lonely."
