  1. Okay, see now that sounds like ADHD to me. :P Debate is also never unproductive, especially in a public forum as others may learn something from it. I like to think most of us are here to expand our worldviews as otherwise we could get the same effect from just writing in a text document. Also I didn't mean to imply that a good diet doesn't help because it is healthy. However it certainly is not a replacement for therapy and proper medication.
  2. Was going through old posts. I figure I'll do my best to answer this one in general. I'm not reading five pages of banter though but I doubt I've chimed in on this. "The scene" (and by extension this forum) has traditionally been a Liberal one. Yes there have been a few conservative voices in it but for the most part those in the counter-culture movements are generally anti-authority, pro LGBT+, pro-choice, pro-drugs, etc... However it's not just the scene's values that are offensive to conservatives, but also the music, fashion, and aesthetic in general are very much non-traditional, which is offensive to most conservatives in general. As such they tend not to come around too often, or leave if they do. They feel like a minority and prefer their echo chambers in the walled gardens they have constructed for themselves. As an effect of this, this leaves this place as an echo chamber of mostly liberal/libertarian voices. It also doesn't help that Troy was a Libertarian himself so things mostly tended to lean that way. Really I'd be most interested to hear @Marblez's take on this though as she's actually a conservative, but she also seems very absent lately as well. Probably because the temp is pretty left of center. When it comes to religion I say keep it to yourself, and I will return in kind. I'm not actively trying to offend anyone, it just sort of happens. Nice necropost you got there :P
  3. Trust is hard to earn but easy to break. I like that Russian saying "Trust but check" as there aren't many rewards without some sort of risk.
  4. That sucks but at least there's a witness and a lot of video evidence apparently. That'll make things easier. Most of the regulars are cool so this is odd, I wonder who it was... I thought about going to City but decided against it. Front room only is kinda lame, but also $10 cover is also lame. Maybe if I got there earlier but I wanted to go to Eastern Palace for Happy Endings. Saw some old friends, made some new ones, and had some great conversations.
  5. Yes, I love the hat. Reminds me of that one Tom Petty music video.
  6. Let me know if you ever want to go shooting. We have a group called The Godless Gunnies but I don't think they've been getting together. Ask @Stu as it's his group. Anyway, as far as politics I think everyone knows my views. I usually side with the Libertarians as they're closest to where I am. Pro freedom, limited government, etc... Unfortunately it's often filled with people who are nuts. This doesn't have to be the case. Same thing with Capitalism. That itself isn't bad and it's better than the alternatives. It's simply the exchange of money for goods and services. What makes it bad is greed and corporatism. Should people be free to be racist/sexist? I say yes, but I don't think that they should be because it's morally wrong and treads on the freedoms of others. There was a good (but heated) discussion at the last DAM regarding if businesses should be free to actually be openly hostile to marginalized groups, and a few said yes but because they don't want to patronize them/give them their money if they're being openly bigoted. If a place is racist/sexist I certainly don't want to shop there. But I feel the same way if a place doesn't like firearms. They should be free to set their own policies and I respect that but damn there are a lot of places I can't shop now. There is this woke SJW thing where if you're guilty of wrongthink they will just cancel you. As if anyone can't have subversive ideas or they're evil and should be executed on the spot. The problem is the divide on both sides and no one is willing to find any common ground let alone actually meet on it. They just vilify eachother which makes the opposition feel attacked and thus they retract further toward that side which they lean to most, which alienates potential allies. @Destroit mentioned a film called "Why We're Polarized" and I don't think I found the right thing, but there was a pretty good discussion with the same title that I ended up watching. It's an hour long but well worth it:
  7. :P But no, seriously I do love a good track not marred by words. A lot of classical music is great. Yngwei Malmsteen's "Black Star" is great too as it incorporates some of that in the acoustic part. Also game/movie/TV show soundtracks (Tangerine Dream, John Carpenter, and Goblin are way up there for me as a few examples.) There's a lot of music that would be great if they removed the lyrics as well. How did an entire paragraph get deleted? I had a whole thing about pseudo instrumental music here. Like music that uses washed out vocals as a background effect, or throat singing. (Side note, someone needs to sample this and stick it in something: .) Or some techno tracks that have a very minimal/short looping lyrics where they're clearly just there as an effect more than the focus of the song. Though something like Adriano Celentano's "Prisencolinensinainciusol" obviously wouldn't count. Jazz is great too, and this is hilarious:
  8. Someone said something on another platform about Trump and aliens. He was president for four years and I don't care which side you're on you know he can't keep his mouth shut about anything. If aliens existed he wouldn't be able to help himself and he'd have spilled everything an hour after he found out. Also I would piss myself laughing if the press secretary did this as a joke: (not the invading Iran part though, that'd probably be bad.)
  9. No, for you and some others it might be a feature and maybe you can manage with it. For the rest of us it's an albatross weighing us down and randomly teleporting in front of us too soon for us to notice so we trip over it. "Just eat right" Oh wow, we've never thought of that! I don't know which is the better subreddit so here, you can have both of them: https://old.reddit.com/r/wowthanksimcured/ and https://old.reddit.com/r/thanksimcured/ (there are probably others but I'm too lazy to look them up, because I have ADHD which apparently just means I'm lazy.) One of the things I've always found hilarious is "jump through all these hoops to get assistance" and I'm either all "fuck all of that" or the executive dysfunction kicks in and I just don't even if I want to, so no assistance for me (again not that I want it but there are others who actually need it.) The problem with people being disabled and still looking like they have complete agency over their lives prevents them from either progressing in their careers or getting the care they need.
  10. But it's like goth shoegaze. Also they have some more upbeat tracks that are pretty killer. Though there are a lot of popular things I don't like that people think I should. I could probably DJ an entire night of that crap.
  11. Because your "don't give a fuck" kicked in? Didn't you see the other thread? :P
  12. No no, they're not aliens, they're lizard people wearing human skin! </s>
  13. Pretty off topic at this point, but the Hunter case is great because everyone (theoretically) has equal protection under the law. Either they fry his ass or many of those crimes get to stop being crimes. Unfortunately the system likes the way its set up so I think he's just going to get nailed to the wall, which while unfortunate for all of us it will at least be satisfying to watch some rich asshole get what he has coming to him. All their kids are scum because all of them are scum. I hope they all get arrested and fined half their income (which still wont be anywhere near enough.)
  14. Yes, but she died. :(
  15. There are a lot of thoughts on this. Some say it's when you become wise. Some say it's when you start to realize your own mortality. Some say it's when all your joints start to hurt for no goddamn reason. Some say it's relative and to the very old we are still young. It's not getting older that I fear, what I fear is no longer getting older. We're all born with one foot in the grave so you have to get used to it, or you kill yourself, or you stop looking at calendars.
  16. I really should look into it, but the executive dysfunction and lack of insurance stemming from that and my hatred of the healthcare system are limiting factors. Also I hate taking pills because Autism. Not to mention I had a friend with Autism who got on Adderall and dropped 300 pounds. I'm already skinny as hell so I imagine I'd waste away to nothing. I'm not "insane" as far as I can tell (though others might disagree) so I'm not too worried as of now. Sorry I can't be of more help here other than I would if I could.
  17. No, our fortunes depend on having the Fortune program installed on the system. Really though people are not required but they do help sometimes. Out hunting alone and having your firearm not misfire when being attacked by a bear? Pretty fortunate I'd say. That family dying in the Colorado wilderness alone because they wanted to live off-grid? Well that was unfortunate.
  18. Because #metoo exists :P (Not saying most of them didn't deserve it either.)
