Hardee's is still around too, just much reduced. There's a bunch down South, and I think there was one in Berkley, last time I drove through.

There's a Hardee's at the intersection of 9 Mile and John R in Hazel Park...true story. Right across from the Blockbuster, kiddy corner to La Casa Inn.

The first time I saw it I thought I was seeing shit.

Has anyone mentioned Towne Club Soda outlets yet? You used to be able to buy soda by the case, mix and match, in GLASS bottles, from there. It was really cheap, from what I recall.

Yeah, my daddy used to buy that sometimes. As I recall, we loved the groovy wooden cases it came in, but the soda itself was just... adequate. Which I guess was why it was so cheap. He also used to go to this Faygo surplus store and buy all this really nasty Faygo- bizarre flavors they couldn't sell, mislabeled or half-full cans... they should've paid people to take that crap but my cheap-ass daddy used to buy tons of it.

I would LOVE to find one of those Towne Club cases.

And oh yeah... think the name of the Hawaiian-themed restaurant on the Boulevard was Mauna Loa. Really big fake palm trees & flaming tiki torches out front... sweeeeet!

  • 3 years later...

It is but its kinda kinda naked. its not really so much a mall as a plaza. Tech plaza itself is super naked, but i love it my gamestop is there.

Wow the last time I was at Universal was in the mid 90's and it was pretty naked then too. So I thought it died off in the first part of this recession we are in.

When I was little, Boshy took me shopping at Montgomery Ward at Gratiot and 15 Mile. The crater is still there fenced in from where the building was.

And when I was little, that strip mall (such a WEIRD strip mall for eastsiders that know where I'm talking about), also had a Woolworth's. We went to their going-out-of-business sale when I was little so Boshy could get me Star Fox. I remember being upset they were going out of business, even though I had never been there, because even as a seven year old I knew that a lot of little kids like I was were probably going to have poor parents for awhile.

Hot and now burgers, In and out burgers and Top Hat burgers.

Hot 'n' Now is still around, there's one in Chesterfield Twp. I do miss the one at Gratiot and Utica, however. That closed down within the last decade, maybe even the past five years.

    • I had a productive day. I also have found some new music to listen to. However, one of my cats is sitting in my lap right now; usually that’s good, but he’s digging his sharp claws into my leg, which isn’t so good.
    • Tired AF... me and Youngblood was out magnet fishin' the Rocky River last night, was an Ef'ed up long day today with the work truck blowin' the trans cooler return lines. Been up all night again tonight again, got back from Leland over to Motor City Casino 'bout 4am and spent hours walkin' every floor level of the casino and parking garages over and over, time after time tryin' to locate rest of my gang... finally found a hidden enclave with a smoking slot machine rom in it that'd I'd been overlooking and all three of 'em ª$$høŁƏ$ was there, they'd been in there tha whole freakin' time... of course Bosshog has no interest in walking away from paying machines yet so I'm sittin' in the back seat of the truck chillin' in the parking garage. Blood sugar bottomed out too low to keep on adventurin' this morn' lol. That's my editorial on last nights crazy in hopes in may entertain someone. All's I got is plenty of 51/50... my cup full o' crazy runneth over so to contribute all this surplus insanity to the greater community at large just seems like a thing to do lol.
    • Think its crazy ass nostalgic that i was able to hustle down here on foot, go in city club before closing. What are the odds lol. I couldn't remember where the doors to go in the building was tho lmfao
    • Well the 2nd half of the day's gone full tilt awful for me, i made a radical decision to get wexked drunk for the 1st time since Panama City Beach FL 4 years ago... subsequently the work gang hmu bout goin to casino... i arrived just now finding myself in Detroit right down the street from where City Club's at so idk wtf. LOL
    • I get the feeling I'm not going to get much sleep tonight.   One of my Feral Furs, Kiki, started giving birth to 5 kittens around 4pm yesterday afternoon and I made her and her kittens a double cardboard box hideaway so she only has to guard the one open slotted side from any of the males or other critters looking for food.  Fortunately the sides of the lower box are just high enough to hide her and her babies inside and the cover box will allow her to venture out if needed while keeping the babies concealed.   I also moved all of the food off the back porch so as not to tempt fate.  But I'll be checking on them ever so often to ensure all is well.
