  1. I hope so, but he seemed not to adapt between his fight with Carwin and the fight with Velasquez. He's just not accustomed to people pressuring him, and since he's pretty much the top dog at his camp, there's no one there to press him in sparring.
  2. Back in the gym getting smacked around by professional fighters as of yesterday. Hoping to start dedicated boxing and wrestling training soon. Also, lost a couple more lbs. Feeling good.
  3. Driving out to NJ with some friends/training partners for a catch wrestling seminar with the great Billy Robinson. I'm excited.
  4. Yup, I've broken a bunch of my toes grappling. They typically don't hurt until the previously broken toe gets whacked again. I'm going to be investing in some wrestling shoes so my feet don't end up looking like my Judo coach's.
  5. Anyone watching? Any predictions for the card? I'm interested to see how well Shields does on the big stage.
  6. Went to a unanimous decision for Bisping. Akiyama forgot that he was a grappler again.
  7. Like the topic says, UFC 120: Akiyama Vs. Bisping is free on Spike TV tonight at 8. Anyone watching? Akiyama is a very impressive Judoka, and just ragdolls people when he remembers that he's not a boxer. I'm excited.
  8. Cool. The long and short is that Bas was a dutch kickboxer who got into pancrase and then full on MMA. He started off as a great striker, but developed an excellent ground game once he saw a need for it. He also has the hardest recorded kicks in combat sports.
  9. You should see if you can find bas's technique video on youtube for the roundhouse kick. I've been doing thaiboxing for a couple of years, and when I switched to his technique for the roundkick I kicked the heavybag so hard that I raised a hematoma on my shin.
  10. If Bas's system is as good as his big books of combat, I would recommend giving it a go.
  11. In this case, I understand the restriction, but what I don't like is that legislation like this tends to make government meddling more palatable to people in the future. So it starts with this, and that would be fine, but not if it leads to increases in taxation or outright bans on what the government decides is unhealthy food.
  12. Lift cardio grip lift cardio grip, back to MMA next month. I miss grappling, but I'm still coughing the last of the pneumonia fluid out of my lungs.
  13. $35 from amazon, I think it had free shipping as well.
  14. Hammar sports vice gripper, goes up to ~360lbs of resistance with the 2 springs, and up to 460 with a third. Started working my grip. Best thing I've purchased all year.
  15. Something's going right with my diet as I'm losing bodyfat without loosing any muscular strength or measured weight. Also started tearing cards and phone books as well as bending metal to help with my grip strength. Hopefully that'll help my grip issues and allow me to pull 500# for more than a rep or two before dropping it.
  16. Well that works out, I need something new to read, and the last Gibson book I read was Pattern Recognition.
  17. Japanese, some spanish(which sometimes transitions into japanese in the middle of a sentence), next will be portugese and after that russian.
  18. I happened to have the whole schedule here in my pocket when I saw this... July 30-31: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom August 6-7: Wayne's World August 13-14: Blue Velvet August 20-21: Pretty in Pink August 27-28: Bottle Rocket September 3-5: Dazed and Confused
  19. A little more like a monster every day.
  20. 20 minutes with 1 min rest between sets with a 45lb bell. Not crossfit, fight conditioning class.
  21. Well, I made it through 10 rounds of 30 kettlebell swings and 30 burpees yesterday. Sore. Serves me right to rejoin the conditioning class when they're more than halfway through their progression of difficulty.
