Get your ass in gear, Troy!!!
Diet isn't so hard....check out South Beach Diet. It's very doable & easy to understand.
If you have a bike (manual, NOT gas powered), use that to run your errands. It's not so hard to do a 5 or 6-mile round trip to go to the store to pick up a few things here or there. I sometimes ride my bike to work (7 mile round trip). Great exercise, no need to pay for gas, and no need for a gym membership! Weather permitting, you can get in at least 2-4 good rides/week. Oh so easy, and you get stuff done too.
Another cheap/free workout: if you have a tall building nearby (20 floors or whatever), take the stairs all the way to the top. Take your time going up; it's not a race. Take the elevator down (going down the stairs can be hard on the legs, but going UP is totally ok for working out). I got this tip from one of those TV shows where people were trying to lose weight.
If you have access to cable or satellite TV, tape a few workout shows on VHS & do those. Try every show you can get your hand on at least once ("variety is the spice of life"). No need to pay for a class or gym membership. I have done this before with lots of success. Also, who cares WHAT you are doing, as long as you are getting your butt moving? You don't have to pick just ONE thing and the different TV shows will expose your body to many different things keeping working out interesting.
There are probably areas of your neighborhood you haven't checked out before. Use that as an excuse to go and check it out, either by walking or biking there. That way you have a "goal" in mind. That helps a lot (rather than just mindlessly going wherever). If you have a goal ("end point"), you are more likely to actually DO it.
If you have a hard time getting motivated, get a workout buddy to work out with you. You guys can motivate each other, especially on the days you don't want to do the workout or want to skip.
