vehicle levels checks (got to know how to check your oil, top it up, check the air, check tread depths, water, screen wash, change bulbs and change the wheel)
and the actual practical
after that there's a 6 point cap on the licence
2 speeding tickets or other points and bye bye licence. this goes to the full limit after 2 years, of 12. so 4 tickets and out, or 3 contested certificates (thats right, you dont pay up and it goes to court, that's 4 points per ticket if the judge presiding is nice)
and here we have ANPR (automated number plate recognition) on bridges, signs and on the police cars themselves that check for the three essentials (tax, insurance and roadworthyness certificates) and average speed cameras
