Anyone have any experience with breathable fabrics?

So, some years ago I inherited my grandfather's stereo console credenza.  I've always loved it but it needed work.  I put eight casters on the bottom propped up by 2x4 beams, and I put a 19" rack in it that pro-audio equipment can be bolted into.  I intend to finish it off by putting speakers into the ends.

The front has grills on the ends that can be covered with the sliding doors, that also have grills on them and fabric behind those that is red and looks like velvet, however it's very breathable too.  I need something to go in the ends though.

For some reason I remembered the fabric on the ends being a royal purple in color.  I'm not sure if I'd want that to match or make it as I remembered it (there was also never any fabric there, I'm just insane.)

So now I'm searching the web for a fabric like that which will still let sound travel through it.  I was just wondering if anyone had any leads on where I might find some?  Thanks.
