A) A live orchestral performance of music from Warner Brothers cartoons at Meadowbrook in the 80's. The orchestra alternated between playing pieces solo, and accompanying the cartoons themselves.

When the conductor walked out, someone did shout, "LEOPOLD!" It was beyond awesome.

Q) Is there a type of music you actually wish you could enjoy or think you should, but you just don't?

Celtic Music.

What is your favorite instrumental (non lyric) piece of music?

What is your favorite instrumental (non lyric) piece of music?

A) "Baroque Hoedown" - the Moog piece by Jean-Jacques Perrey done for the Disney Electrical Parade (Play it in your car with a good system with good bass, you'll thank me):

Q) Is there a blatantly commercial band/artist you consider(ed) a guilty pleasure?

As a rule I don't feel guilty about any of the music I like... but as far as "out of character" I am a fan of some N'Sync tracks that BT produced.

What music do you feel is "magical"?

Oh god coil that music takes me to another world and inspires me so much. Dead can dance, sopor, dark sanctuary and raison d'etre do that too actually now that I think of it there's a nice handful of music that I consider magical.

What is your favorite super awesome cheesy song.

(Good answer)

I think... a lot of the catalog from the band Yello would apply... specifically "Do It" or "The Race"

What music would you want playing in your "Death Scene"?

High Pitched, Jacob Bannon (Converge)

Low Pitched Growls, Jonny Davy (Job For A Cowboy)

A song you NEVER get sick of.

Horizon by Tangerine Dream

If there was one piece of music that you think everyone you know should hear... what is it?

There isnt one, because as A DJ it is my job to show everyone all the music I find to be worth listening to, so they have already heard it.

Your favorite Neofolk band (assuming you have one).

What are some songs/pieces of music you consider "haunting?"

Into Temptation by Crowded House

Theme from Halloween (sorry to be so obvious)

A good deal of "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" by Sarah MacLachlan

Most of "Hounds of Love" by Kate Bush

Mercy Street by Peter Gabriel

Invisible Sun by The Police

And I'll stop there, because I have always had a thing for haunting music and didn't quite realize it until this thread (nice way we're discovering about other's musical lives, as well as our own)

Q) Flipping that, what do you listen to for plain, silly fun?

Most of the band Yello's catalog... but also some 80's metal is always good.

Who, in rock music in general , is the best bass player ever?

A) Flea. Close second: Les Claypool. Sorry to be so predictable on that, but those two are really just outstanding and hard to beat.

That said, there are lots of less flashy or proficient bassists who really do it for me just for dependability and for specific sounds/songs/recognizeable style. This includes Simon Gallop of The Cure (or Robert Smith, since more often than you'd guess you're hearing him play most of the instruments on their albums), Steve Severin of Siouxsie and the Banshees, and John Entwistle of The Who, amongst many others.

I'm very, very drawn to a heavy bottom section (that's what she said), so I do pay some attention to bass players when I hear something I like.

Related note: The Cure's "Primary" is almost always the song I use to test a new sound system. Two basses? Drool.

Q) Favorite car stereo song?

Good call on the bassists (though I'd consider Steve Harris and Geddy Lee as well)

(I'm going to get sooooo much shit from Phee for this)

The Offspring ~ Bad habit

What would you say is the most important element you need to hear in music before you like it?

A) Easy. Good melody. Every type of music I like, from New Wave to Folk to EBM to you name it, has a strong melody. I'm not into noise. The lyrics can suck and if the melody is strong, I can dig it. Instrumentation is second.

Q) What is your dream boxed set, real or imagined?

I have always liked Chemlab..... (if that counts by definition.)

If you could join any band/musician for one week... what would/who would you join?

Oh, gads, good question. How can I answer without getting annoyingly analytical and tedious? I guess I can't.

For the sure to be all-around memorable experience: Prince

For the comfort of familiar instrumentation - The Cure, or at least Robert Smith, but preferably the whole band (If you really break down their songs, for the most part, the instrumentation is not particularly complex - it's the layering that gives it prime "Cure"ness and depth. I'm a simple player, and can play a lot of their individual parts.)

For the pure fun of it - Ringo Starr & his all star band

For hero worship: Chrissie Hynde and whatever the Pretenders consists of at the time

For style/overall sound envy: Crowded House, or at least Neil Finn

For incredible vocal blending: Anne & Nancy Wilson of Heart

Q) If you could change the lineup of a particular band, what band would that be, how and why?
