Photography for the DGN Calendar

Recommended Posts

Count me in.  Line up the victims for shooting ...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Disclaimer : I did not solicit his help. He offered it to me.

That's right. Msterbeau wants to shoot you! (With his camera, that is!) If you want to be in this calendar, and want a quality shot that's sure to please, please post here, as well as PM Msterbeau to make the arrangements. He kindly made the offer, which I thought was really, really nice.

Any questions, PM me or Msterbeau.

Thank you soooooooo much!

Does this pay?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Hehe, mew thinks that the only "paying" involved will be for the purchase of your own calendar. :wink If DGN were a legitimate business, it would have been bankrupt LOOOONG ago.

:grin :laughing

Only if you consider payment being in the calendar.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well, not necessarily.

Paying for one's own photo-shoot can get expensive, and I'm under the impression that I'm not the only person here who probaly wouldn't be able to pay for that. If this is to be a labour of love for everybody involved, including the photographer, then by all means, count me in (if for no other reason than I'd like some portfolio shots without a cock in my ass), but see, I'm poor. I think there are others here who could describe themselves as "poor" as well.

Whatever work I do for this... as in my other photography, is for my own practice. I expect no money... nor will I pay for models. Yet.

Labor of love is about right.

PM either TomCat or Mstrbeau. Neither one of them has said anything to me about wanting money. I originally asked that people email me with pics, and then these two wonderful gentlemen offered to shoot. Believe me, I know how expensive shoots can be, but this is more of a labor of love. It was brought up a few times in the past, and I decided that I wanted to take it on. I hope that you'll be a part of it, Rozzlyn. It's going to be fun.

That's nice but you might want to consider collecting whatever the developing might cost. If it's shared between all those who get their photos taken it shouldn't be too much per person.

Doesn't seem right to have the photographer foot the entire bill for the cost of the photos.

I work entirely digital. It costs me squat, other then capital costs of the equipment... most of which I own already. (I do need to get a couple lights/softboxes and a reflector or two. But I don't mind paying for those.. ) I suppose I would accept a donation but I don't expect it.

Are we still to submit pictures we've already got via e-mail to you, Brenda?

And MB - thanks for the guidelines on file size. But what's also important for me (and perhaps others) to know is, what DPI and actual picture size?

I have a pic I plan to submit, but wasn't sure it would print well calendar-sized because it was taken with a 1mp digital camera on the lowest setting, so it loads as about a 72 DPI jpg. Might do fine as a small, placeholder pic (like I described in the original poll on this subject), but might not be of good enough detail to print as a full page.

I have only recently obtained a color printer, so I have some experimenting to do with printing, etc. My background is in desktop publishing, but I got out of the business before I learned much about going from computer to hard-copy when it comes to photographs. So I've always been confused about how digital pictures translate to printouts.

Good questions. It's tough to give the dpi and image size since it's the overall pixel count that's important.

A 1MP camera is frankly, crap. The amount of imformation collected is never going to be enough to make a decent image, even if the lense and all were top notch.

There are guides out on the web that compare file size to print size. What I posted was my own judgement on what I think I can manipulate into something reasonable. It's worth noting that if you submit a photo at the minimum size...it needs to look really good at that size... it will degrade as it gets blown up.

If you want me to give you minimum numbers : I'd call it 8" x 10" size.. 150dpi resolution.

Another thing to be careful of is using Jpeg images.. They're what everyone uses but file size can be deceptive. Everytime you resave one from a base image it degrades in quality, because it's a "lossy" compression method. So you may have enough image size, according to my guide...but the image can be pretty crummy because it's gone through a few generations of saving..

Brenda? Would you mind forwarding what you get and so I can make recommendations about useability?

2 volunteers? I know Mr. Beau is one of them, but who's the other?

None yet. Now that I have 2 volunteers, those who want to be in it need to get ahold of them. I'd like to have everything ready to go by (maybe) the end of October. It'll give me plenty of time.

    • Tired AF... me and Youngblood was out magnet fishin' the Rocky River last night, was an Ef'ed up long day today with the work truck blowin' the trans cooler return lines. Been up all night again tonight again, got back from Leland over to Motor City Casino 'bout 4am and spent hours walkin' every floor level of the casino and parking garages over and over, time after time tryin' to locate rest of my gang... finally found a hidden enclave with a smoking slot machine rom in it that'd I'd been overlooking and all three of 'em ª$$høŁƏ$ was there, they'd been in there tha whole freakin' time... of course Bosshog has no interest in walking away from paying machines yet so I'm sittin' in the back seat of the truck chillin' in the parking garage. Blood sugar bottomed out too low to keep on adventurin' this morn' lol. That's my editorial on last nights crazy in hopes in may entertain someone. All's I got is plenty of 51/50... my cup full o' crazy runneth over so to contribute all this surplus insanity to the greater community at large just seems like a thing to do lol.
    • Think its crazy ass nostalgic that i was able to hustle down here on foot, go in city club before closing. What are the odds lol. I couldn't remember where the doors to go in the building was tho lmfao
    • Well the 2nd half of the day's gone full tilt awful for me, i made a radical decision to get wexked drunk for the 1st time since Panama City Beach FL 4 years ago... subsequently the work gang hmu bout goin to casino... i arrived just now finding myself in Detroit right down the street from where City Club's at so idk wtf. LOL
    • I get the feeling I'm not going to get much sleep tonight.   One of my Feral Furs, Kiki, started giving birth to 5 kittens around 4pm yesterday afternoon and I made her and her kittens a double cardboard box hideaway so she only has to guard the one open slotted side from any of the males or other critters looking for food.  Fortunately the sides of the lower box are just high enough to hide her and her babies inside and the cover box will allow her to venture out if needed while keeping the babies concealed.   I also moved all of the food off the back porch so as not to tempt fate.  But I'll be checking on them ever so often to ensure all is well.
