Voltaire in Flint

I haven't posted much recently - I'm pretty busy with the new baby! However, I'm getting a babysitter for the 25th and am planning to go to the Vampire Ball in downtown Flint (near the college). It is a benefit for the Farmers' Market.

I've been in that building once a long time ago, and it is pretty impressive. I'm excited to see Voltaire - it should be fun.

The flyer says 'be creative, but be clothed'

Pfft.

Clothes? You've GOT to be kidding me!

Nah, I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

Not that I can EVER make it out to any event, but if I can swing it - I'll go to this one.

I've got peeps in Flint that have been whining that I need to go see them.

And I heart the farmer's market. A very old and dear friend of mine is helping to run it.

why is everyone in competition this year damnit??!!

there are like 6 huuuge parties scheduled for the 25th!!!

Yes! I noticed that when I read the other topics. I almost felt bad mentioning it. I live in Flint, so this is the party I am going to. :) THAT - and my husband is a HUGE Voltaire fan, so it's a no-brainer there. Actually getting that guy to go OUT for "night life" at all is a miracle in itself.

there is also a few shows yes

i have always wanted to do the vamp ball thing, oh well...next year

YES - If it is a sucess, they plan to do this annually. I don't know who they are planning on getting to play the event from year to year - but it sounds like something that could become a real fashion show-off event as it matures. Perhaps instead of US (those that live in Flint) piling into the car and going to Ann Arbor and Detroit, we'll get some visitors. :)

Please take this as constructive criticism, not being mean--

Iris and I just so happened to be in Flint across the street from this event tonight, and we were considering going... but all we can get out of the website is that we're paying $25 to see voltaire and have some random thoroughly unexplained things happen throughout the night. We don't know what the "live music" is we don't know the genre of music, and while I'm sure I can make an educated guess at what a "marking ceremony" is... I would really like to know more about that before committing myself to such an activity...

We were seriously considering going, but we really didn't feel thoroughly convinced that we should expect to have a good time. If anyone knows who creates/maintains that website and promotions for the group, we highly suggest working on the marketing copy--it can make a big difference getting people to come.

Oh gosh - yeah, I'm not affiliated with the group at all, so I have no idea who does their promotions. However, for me (since I'm such a big fan) - all they had to say is "Voltaire" and I was there with bells on.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable night! The dancers were pretty cool (some of the dances were exceptionally awesome) and the "live music" was good (but frankly, it was more like an extraordinarily good wedding band than anything else, was too loud, and seemed stylistically incompatible with the evening.)

The crowd seemed to be broken up into the Voltaire-fan camp and the Halloween-party-going-Farmer's-market camp. Some of which, I don't think truly understood what a "catch" having Voltaire there was. It was a bit strange in that regard. I mean - you had people wearing goofy off-the-rack Halloween costumes, some Ren garb, and then you had the core group of gothelites and gothelitas who were there just for Voltaire. However much I enjoyed being one of the best-dressed for once - that was a bit of a let-down for me.

I'm hoping the event shapes up more year-to-year, but I certainly had a good time their first time around.
