Koffin Kats (creative, hammer horror, energetic, remains very loyal to Michigan despite being touring whores, haha)

800Beloved (simply beautiful stunning post-punk, they remain mind blowing with every listen)

Pussy Pirates (Jazzy no-wave ala The Slits/Bush Tetras, great stuff. You got to love their panache and energy. Really friendly people too)

Genders (Defunct, but great dub/post-punk)

Jak (Defunct, but great mathy-no-wave-ish stuff. Neat)

Charlie Slick (Fun!)

Tyvek (Cool art-punk)

Nuke and the Living Dead (Defunct, but a damn good ole time!)

Country Bob & The Blood Farmers (Got to love Tex and co)

Trapdoor Spiders (Remains of Gargoyle Sox, great rockin' gothic rock)

Atrocity Asylum (my friend's gothic folk band, a very classy deal)

Writhing is my current favorite, possibly the greatest metal band Detroit has seen. http://www.myspace.com/writhing

Featuring members (Scott Hixson on vox and Greg on drums) of the greatest local band ever, World of Hurt.

Diegrinder

Decibilt

Heaven Havenot

Relik

The Black Dahlia Murder

Mind Altering Substance

Bang Bang

The Detroit Cobras

LOL, I remember seeing Taproot with Factory 81 opening. There was only like 5 of us in the crowd when Taproot went on, 2 years later they're playing arenas with Deftones. Good band, lost a lot of interest after the first few albums though.

that is a very good list....and while Writhing isn't bad....I do have to say that they'll never stand out. No offense to them, I can see their great musicians...but when 1,000 other bands in your area are doing the same thing....it's hard to really stand out amongst the wave.

Relik is good...I'll be seeing them Saturday.

lol...Zug Izland...I sold jewelry to some of those guys at Harley Fest last year.

Urgh.

All of the bands I used to go see split-up or changed a lot while I was out of state between 2002 and 2005.

They used to be:

Gangster Fun

Goober & The Peas

Trash Brats

The Hentchmen

George Bedard & the Kingpins (I actually am not sure about him/them, I have to do some research)

The Exceptions

The only ones for sure that I know are still together are the 3D Invisibles, who also play as my FAVORITE group, the Hellbenders. They also play as a few other bands as well.

The 3-D Invisibles are playing soon at Paychecks.
