We know you just LOVE the place right?

My review....no towels......sticky with WHAT I don't know or want to know couch...

And plaster falling from the ceiling so bad it was like stepping into the sand box to take a shower.

Now I just got this from someone I am meeting at CC and NO we will not be getting the city club special after lol.

wouldn't stay at the Ramada either. That building is like, falling apart, and there are parts of it that are like Silent Hill. lol While working there I got to see all these weird, crazy areas. There was a room in the basement that was eternally flooded (like, as in a small lake) with water, and other rooms that are dingy and old and odd, with stained floors and crumbling walls, and old washing machines and tubs and a piano. Very much like Silent Hill or something - especially in the forbidden rooms.

I love that place... it's like Detroit's own Chelsea Hotel. I would love to explore some of the "forbidden zones" there. I almost always get decent rooms, maybe the desk staff just like me or something... worst I've got was a room w/the security bolt splintered off the door & I think that was my 1st or 2nd time there. I've actually written a couple Leland reviews on TripAdvisor, maybe I'll dig 'em up later. Definitely requires a spirit of adventure to deal with a stay there, tho!

The place we stayed in Chicago was what the Leland could be if the owners had (a) put some $ into it (b) not turned most of the place into SSI/FIA housing... all the history & charm w/out the lack of amenities & maintenance.

The Leland House (can't call it the Ramada anymore since they pulled out the franchise after the superbowl fiasco) is a dump. I've bitched about it enough. Morons are too stupid to stop going so I've given up badmouthing it.

It just saddens me that no one has any standards anymore.

I wouldn't stay in the hotel. So if this is strictly about the hotel, I don't care. I'm sure it is a dump and I'd have to be without a single safe option otherwise to stay there. I doubt seriously that will ever happen.

As for "morons without standards," SG, up until recently you've expressed your honest feelings about the place while keeping things from being personal. Don't lose my respect, eh?

The things I go to CC for (if this isn't off-topic) are the things that meet my personal standards. I go there for atmosphere, music and people - in that order. I don't give a rats' ass about bathrooms, sound systems, hotel rooms, drink prices, etc.

I stayed there once. The bedroom was okay; very clean and nothing broken. The bathroom however was disgusting. The toilet didn't flush and the sink barely ran. No towels, and that was just fine really because the shower was filthy. I'm rather militant about getting a shower in the morning but this was one of the rare occasions where I made an exception.

I can second that - not interested in staying there. Sure, I wish it were in better condition and in good repair, cleaner, but there really is not another club anywhere in driving distance with the sheer volume of interesting people that one may find at City. (wishing I weren't working this weekend so I could be there).

I have encountered a few repair concerns...

Stuck in room on 20th? floor due to faulty/overpainted door lock.

Pencil width gap between wall and AC unit (right next to the bed) - causes one hell of a draft on a January night. How that thing didn't fall out was beyond me.

BUUUT...overall, the convenience of only having to stumble upstairs after an especially eventful night at City Club was well worth it when the room cost is shared appropriately.

the overall area is bad. The number is up to 4 now of peeps I know whos vehicle was broken into. Oh and one mugging. (I told him to RUN into the building....! He didn't listen!)

I stand by my statement, friends excluded but I still wish they'd join in on the boycott. Until Mike starts to spend money on the building (not just the club THE BUILDING, I can understand cheap club owners but not slum lords) my boycott stands.

Bottom line for me, Leland is affordable, convenient for an evening at City or juggalo events, party-friendly, and no one ever hassles me there- which cannot be said for either of the Jefferson Ave. motels I've been to where I always feel unsafe. The spooky faded-glory ambience is a bonus for me but the other factors are what makes it worth the loot. For whatever reason I don't seem to have the dirty/damaged room problems others have had there- after that first time w/the broken door bolt, I've only had one room that was downright unacceptable... and the desk clerk was very nice about giving me a different room so that was all good.

& LuLuVox, I would venture to guess that a lot of folks who ended up at the then-Ramada for the Super Bowl were expecting something rather more standard in the way of amenities & whatnot... I'm sure Ramada HQ racked up a ton of complaints. Same thing has happened at that horrific Day's Inn on Jefferson, they've had the Days name yanked at least twice.

Long story short, Mr. Higgins was greedy and jacked up the prices. The Ramada got pissed off and pulled their franchise out of his building. Or at least that's the version I heard.

I heard a different version, supposedly an inspector for the Ramada reviewed the place secretly around that time, made such a horrible report that the ramada washed their hands of the place to prevent their name from being tainted by the place. this could have been one of the reasons along with the price hike.

i bet the name was yanked for a number of the above reasons... and im thinking that most Ramada corporate types would probably freak about the whole City Club thing.

Ramada is a pig stie for about 95% of the rooms. There are a few good ones that I've been in, but i think they are only for friends of the management.

I bitched to Sybil and to Mike both directly about the poor quality of the rooms, i was told "they are remodeling" once each by both of them. This being a year apart from each other. But i was told various things about "improvements are coming" about the crap air quality inside CC a few separate times as well. ( i assume its still a mine shaft that no canaries would survive? )

We went to Luci and Ethel's after City on Sunday, and I had to pee. It creeped me out just to use the bathroom. I can only imagine what the rest of the joint is like. I kept hearing Jack Nicholson saying "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

Ramada = bad!! ESPECIALLY during the winter. It was so friggin' cold in the room, I could barly sleep. The we called down to the desk to ask about it and told us that the heat is 'regulated'. An automatic tempature controll. Yeah, if that was the case, they should have the temp set at temp that was warmer than it was. I swear we could've opened the window and had the freezing breeze warm us up compared to the 'heat' that they had running.

On top of that...I couldn't get into the bathroom. It's not a very handicap accessible place. So I had to pee in a garbage can...which isn't as bad as you think...the steam from my pee supported us with slight and temparary fix of heat...

I have never, ever been to a GOOD Ramada.

If I want good, I hit the Hampton Inn.
