I wish I had the time and finances to organize a goth prom for graduates this time of year.

Mine are not going.

Clothes...expensive, 2-3 hundered bucks for two.

65 bucks a ticket?

Rent limo.....

dinner....

For hip hop and booty crap?

I think they are going to the haunticon instead....my treat. Maybe the ball...dunno

But I think it would be great if someone organzed a goth ball for the graduates encompassing the entire metro area and rented a hall or something.

Whatever happened to school dances that were more like venues for local bands?

The school system's over-obsession with conservative attire is completely ridiculous. I didn't get on my school's composite (pictures of students in the halls) because I was wearing all black and an Iron Maiden t-shirt. A friend of mine was dressed up to meet their standards, but they wouldn't take his picture because he was wearing makeup. :erm

Having been a goth at my high school prom...

I found a silver/black dress at TJ Maxx for $20. And, I got ALOT of wear out of that dress - I must have worn it to city for YEARS after that...until it just had too many cigarette burns to deal with.

My mom and I sewed vinyl gloves for $10 (and alot of frustration. My mom is so sweet!) I was going for catwoman, but got more Penguin. No matter. Everyone loved them, including me. Sold them to Vintage Noir for $10, so in the end they were free!

Split a limo among like twelve of us. Cost $10 per person (we only took it TO the place and had left our cars there the night before)

Dinner before hand consisted of spaghetti and meatballs at a friend's house. YUM!

Tickets were, like $30, and that was expensive, but I had spent WAY more on concert tickets before, so I figured I shouldn't bitch.

Corsage? Pfftt. Neighbor's rose bush (free), pins, elastic and floral tape all from my mom's junk drawer (also free).

But, sheesh, $65 per ticket now!! That's outrageous!! And you have TWO!! What the hell are they thinking that people can afford that? Even if you could find a cheap dress and stuff, that $65 ticket price is a bitch.

I'm pretty out of the loop AFA secondary school polilcies, but $65 seems really excessive to me. Is this a public school? If so parents need to get together and challenge that. Given how utterly fucked the state economy is, that cost would definitely be a hardship for most parents in the average MI district. There is tons of legal precedent against public schools excluding students from events like a prom because of inability to pay. If it were a school-sponsored trip that would be one thing, but a prom is supposed to be something ALL students can attend.

I graduated from Plymouth Salem in 1993 and that was about the going rate then as well. Prom, unfortunately, was (at that time)generally planned by the Student Council/Preppy types whose families tended to have more $$. I think that's pretty much how it is everywhere.

Yah I know. I met someone (who shall remain nameless but is an ass) who said you were not very popular in high school and he still doesn't like you. And I hung out with said person 1 night....and didn't like him so.....his loss.

Awesome, I still don't like him either.

I always said I was popular in a bad way, everyone knew me and hated me.
