DJ Saint
This past Saturday, DJ Jon Noble and I (DJ Saint) got the rare opportunity to BOTH fill in for the regular resident Saturday City Club DJ's. Had a ton of fun this evening as evidenced by the playlist that follows. For additional fun we decided to switch things up every 5 songs or so. This provided an opportunity to get to request quicker and for a lot more variety in the music as evidenced by music as diverse as Curve, She Wants Revenge, Implant, SLAYER, Modulate, Joy Division, etc... Nice to have a decent-sized and appreciative crowd to spin to. And while we are certainly not knocking our fellow friends and Saturday DJ's Joe and J9, we would just like to take this opportunity to invite some of you Saturday club-goers to check things out at City Club on Friday nights as well. Need some encouragment? There is currently $1 off passes at stores around several towns. Need some FURTHER encouragement? Limited FREE Passes to be used for Fridays can also be found around several towns or if you see Noble and I out around town or even on Fridays at City Club - ask us for passes. As always, thanks for the support - hope to see you BOTH Fridays and Saturdays at City Club. -Marc (DJ Saint) :: Playlist :: 12.16.06 DJ’s Saint & Jon Noble *= request 10 p.m. State of the Union – Impendum CD 10:50 p.m. Note: Jon and I switched off every 5 songs from here until the end of the night. I have preferred the music on fridays for a long time but saturday is just such an easier night for me to get out. I hope fridays pick up for you guys, you deserve it. Fierce Critter
Alrighty. While I don't recognize a lot of the songs/bands listed, I recognize and like a LOT MORE than I've been hearing on Saturdays lately. Also not to bash the Saturday DJ's. But I'd call what they usually play in heavy rotation more "techno" than goth, synthpop, EBM or Industrial. And when I go there, I want to hear goth, sythpop, EBM, and though I can't dance to it, I don't mind hearing the occasional industrial song (hey, everybody needs to sit one out once in a while, right?) So, can you guys hit me up with some copies of playlists from previous Fridays? My husband and I have been threatening to switch to Fridays for a long time. If previous playlists look anything like this one, you'll have sold us on it. Also, I can't help but notice that the requests played lean heavily toward the EBM genre. Does that perhaps guide you guys to play more of the more recognizeable EBM/synthpop bands? I mean, while people like to complain they're overplayed, I can't help but notice when I'm putting in my own requests that the bands I see requested over and over and over again are often the same (VNV, Apop, Wolfsheim, Wumpscut, etc. They may be "overplayed" in some people's opinion, but they sure seem to make a lot of people happy. Yes we do realize the economy, gas prices and several other factors mean people's resources and time might be compromised. Musically, I think each night offers a good variety of music. There's some similarities there in what we play certainly, but between the 4 DJ's we each have likings for specific areas of music (ie: Joe Darque - synthpop, me - noise/harsh beats)... Just want people to come out both nights and have fun - period. Fridays, should pick up steam. Posting more playlist, getting to more request and injecting some new stuff from time to time should help. Also got some release parties coming up on Fridays in the new year Be well

I'll have some Friday Playlist posted soon. There's a good chunk of variety in there musically. Saturday crowds seem to be a bit more open-minded(???) to a lot of the newer stuff (which genre wise is mainly synthpop and futurepop driven these days) thus the DJ's MAY lean more towards that "techno" genre than say us Friday DJ's, but overall the 4 of us have similar as well as varied interest and can easily accomodate the new mixed with the old and several styles. Depends on the crowd mainly. As for the tendency to play more EBM than other genres... great question. MY own feelings there is that specific genre leads itself to being perhaps more danceable (based mainly on 4/4 time signatures). There's a huge range of styles to incorporate from harsh stuff like Suicide Commando and Combichrist into VNV Nation, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb and such. Tends to mix together a bit easier. Also that genre along with synthpop seems to be progressing and incoprorating new trends faster than other genres. Goth hasn't shown much progress in recent years, preferring to 'repeat' the traditional forefathers of the genre. The harder guitar stuff (ie: 16 volt, Chemlab, Machines of Loving Grace, Cubanate, etc...) seems to have trailed off in the last few years too (and it's a bitch to mix well - at least for me HA-HA). Don't get me wrong, there's bands that are exceptions and exceptionally good in those genres too. Also, Trance never has worked at City for some odd reason (too happy, uplifting and optimistic for the dark souls?) Where was I? Regardless, there's plenty of good music to play and all DJ's try to hit the mark with selections from past to present from an assortment of genres. Can't please everyone all the time, but we try and we do take into consideration what people are requesting as well as taking risk to introduce new stuff. So yeah check us out on a Friday sometime AND go on a Saturday too. Hopefully you'll hear some classics and some new stuff you'll like. Be well, -Marc
