A tree branch sorta hit the roof of the home I am renting. Technically, it's not really my problem, and the damage is relatively minimal, but still...a tree branch fell on my house.

Holliwood, once again I must compliment you on your taste. Alan Rickman, the dry wit, the tired sarcasm, that jaw...if I were a woman, I'd do him. Ah, celebs. Jennifer Connelly is the prettiest celeb in my eyes, and has been for some time: -
Once I finished 1984, I seriously had to start examining our government for doublethink. Of course, that's like examining a big tree for birds: easy to spot, if you step back a little. I just finished reading Alas, Babylon, by Pat Frank. From my sources, I'm told that it was pretty much the first "post-apocalyptic nuclear war future" novel to be written. It was published back in 1959, and it's interesting to see the predictions Frank makes. It was obvious that Frank had given it a lot of thought, and also surprising to see what some of the survival challenges might be. Most interesting though, is his prediction that racial discrimination would cease to exist, of necessity, in a world wracked by nuclear war. Sort of a harbinger of the Civil Rights Movement. I am now just starting on Social Psychology of Modern Japan. I'll be intrigued to see where the data lead.

My car is an eternally hellish piece of burning crap, and it's metaphorically attached to my hip.

I miss authentic ramen from the little corner shops in Japan. Not exactly drive-through, but you got your meal within a minute.

Comfortable With Being Single ?
Shade Everdark replied to Troy Spiral's topic in Relationships, Pets & Domestic Homelife
At the risk of sounding pedantic, I think it comes down to the difference between 'want' and 'need'. I suppose most people want to be loved, or at least wanted in an emotional sense. But it's something that no one needs. I think it simply comes down to realizing that you can be happy on your own. You don't need anyone else to complete you - all that's simply a misconception. You're already complete. The only thing that happens when you find someone that special is to create something new, that is greater than the sum of its parts. But it doesn't diminish the part, to be on its own. -
What do you look for?

I look for nuclear warheads in her basement. -
Any search for god is futile, as long as we remain human. The nature of what we define as god, compared to the nature of what we define as human, are so vastly different in terms of worldview and capacity for understanding and enlightenment, as to make that chasm of 'knowing god' an insurmountable obstacle. Put simply, I don't care who you are, you don't know god, if god exists. You can't. At the very least, with a scientific search for the origin of all things, we know where we stand; we know our footing, we don't know all the rules, but we just might be able to learn them all, and we can work from there. Science isn't, as Steven purports, an empty alternative, anymore than a faith in a god is; much like faith in god, it's just incomplete.

That is, unfortunately, the most recent photo of me, that I am aware of, that does not look god-awful. How I do miss my long hair. -
Time is a concept that allows us to experience the universe in a way that makes sense to us. Leaving aside the quantum theories for just a moment, without time, we wouldn't be able to distinguish in what specific location atoms were in, or tell whether they'd moved or not. It's simply another way for us to compartmentalize our experience.

Songs That Make You Think of Someone
Shade Everdark replied to fallennon's topic in Music Discussion
Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" always makes me think of my friend Goldenrod. She loved the song and had a strange crush on Zevon. I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain He was looking for the place called Lee Ho Fook's Going to get a big dish of beef chow mein Werewolves of London If you hear him howling around your kitchen door Better not let him in Little old lady got mutilated late last night Werewolves of London again Werewolves of London He's the hairy handed gent who ran amuck in Kent Lately he's been overheard in Mayfair Better stay away from him He'll rip your lungs out, Jim I'd like to meet his tailor Werewolves of London Well, I saw Lon Chaney walking with the Queen Doing the werewolves of London I saw Lon Chaney, Jr. walking with the Queen Doing the werewolves of London I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's His hair was perfect Werewolves of London again Draw blood And since he listened to the song so damn much, Soul Coughing's "Super Bon Bon" is inextricably linked to my friend Bill. Move upside And let the man go through. Let the man go through. If I stole Somebody else’s wave To fly up. If I rose Up with the avenue Behind me. Some kind of verb. Some kind of moving thing. Something unseen. Some hand is motioning To rise, to rise, to rise. Too fat, fat you must cut lean. You got to take the elevator to the mezzanine, Chump, change, and it’s on, super bon bon Super bon bon, super bon bon. And by The phone I live In fear Sheer chance Will draw You in To here. -
