Michigan workplaces -- including bars and restaurants -- will go smokefree in May

Recommended Posts

I hate that this is happening...

but at least they are doing it in May, when its starting to warm up a little bit, so us smokers aren't stuck freezing to death, trying to keep the other patrons from getting cancer...

Sooner or later it will get cold again...and all the smokers will have CLAW HANDS...which is actually kinda cool unless you need to type or write...

Just wait till they tell you you cannot smoke walking down the side walk, they do that in Cali, and your own home, but its ok for certain corporations to spew their toxic crap in the air which is way worse,I breath aluminum oxide and oil coolant mist every day at work,IMO I think that is worse than cigarette smoke,I really would like to call every lawmaker an asshole POS and Granmole a c&nt,I wonder if I can get in trouble for, saying that,LOL!!(sarcastic)carry on

Sorry to all the smokers, but I'm glad I'll be able to come home from an event and not reek of smoke. That was one of the many reasons I quit. Cigarette smoke stinks. Plus, I will no longer get burned by some inconsiderate asshole who doesn't know how to keep their cigarette to themselves on the dance floor, nor will my eyes burn while talking to someone while their smoke plumes into my eyes.

..yeah, it is a great sentiment that they do this in...but, really, who smokes that can go an 8 hour shift without a puff...what club or bar can afford the renovations for patios...they are REALLY trying to drive MORE peoples out of work...so they can haz a larger, more proletariat populous...that is why there is all of this...THEY, want to own us...hungry for power, they will tell us what to do...if they don't see that we conform...they will spank us...it did not work for the church, it will not work for THEM.

Has anyone been to a bar out of state where they passed the smoking ban years ago?

It's a motherfucking apocalypse. Blackened skies, the waters turn red, earthquakes and disasters, the four horsemen appear. Brimstone and hellfire fall from the sky, plagues visit the lands leaving sorrow and destruction in their wake. False messiahs, wars, rumors of wars, pestilence and famine!!!!!!

The people actually get up, walk out of the bar smoke, and then come back in.

I'm barricading myself in the basement with tons of food, ammunition and "Deep Thoughts" by Jack Handy.

I have even often times here in Michigan seen people visiting from other states, walk out of the bar to smoke. When they come back in, they're like walking corpses, a mere shell of their former self.

God damn me to hell for not smoking. I only have myself to blame for not accommodating those who do. I have a right to breathe second hand smoke, fuck "big brother" for robbing me of my freedoms.

When obese people eat the hell out of a big slimy triple bacon-smash whopper, they oughta force some of it down my ungrateful throat with a ram-rod and throw me a smack in the mouth if I complain.

Every time a neighbor wants to shoot up some horse, it's only fair that they launch the needle out of a slingshot through my window and into my neck so I can score some sweet leftover smack. And God damn anyone who says that's inconsiderate.

If the government was REALLY thinking of people's rights, they would pass a law stating that the non-smokers have to leave the building every time someone wants to smoke. That way, the non-smokers are being totally considerate and not stepping on anyone's toes or infringing on anyone's rights.

It's a dumb law, it's slightly like prohibition, but they're not trying to stop you entirely.

Inconvenient?- It sure is.

I've been inconvenienced for years, and never complained.

It will be less convenient for you, but you can still smoke, and you won't die...

well... eventually.

btw the clever, super advanced, easy-to-use editor, doesn't make italics clever, super advanced, or easy-to-use; pictures or videos either for that matter.

I started smoking because that's what I grew up around.

I disagree with the baning of smoking in bars because 80-90 persent of people that go to/hang out in bars are smokers.

I have to strongly disagree with you on this. Even in our little subculture, the % isn't that high. You see a LOT of people @ City who aren't smoking. Most of the people I go there with are non smokers.

Yes this might be true but I wasn't talking about just CC, I was thinking more of the average bar.

Look I wasn't trying to offend or piss off anyone, I was just speeking from my own experiences of being a bartender, server & dancer for so many years & in several states, including michigan & yes it has been surveyed.

Ok, restaurants I can fucking understand being covered under the ban. When I eat, I don't want to smell that shit and even if they put you in a smoke free section, you still smell all the cigarette smoke. But bars/pubs/clubs? I'm just getting sick of the government telling us what to do because it's "what's best" for us. I think all the smokers should just quit so the government can't get that wonderful tax money they make off of them.

Ok I want at least one non-smoker to answer a few SIMPLE questions...please?!?!

1. Why EVERY bar?

2. If you want a CHOICE how does it work if there is only one "choice"?

3. When it comes to a bar, a real bar with little to no food, are you a regular or do you bounce randomly from bar to bar?

4. How long do you spend in a bar when and if you go?

5. Do you pay bar dues at any of these bars?

6. Have you really talked to all of these owners and bar workers about this and what was their opinion? (They have a big part in this too you know...as in money)

One issue I hadn't thought of before is the health of bar and restaurant employees. They have almost zero choice, particularly in an economy like ours, to move to a place that doesn't permit smoking.

I have a question for those who smoke. Bearing in mind that for all of us here, the harmful effects of smoking have been undisputed for our entire lifetimes - Why did you start smoking?

Because it's delicious...? Why do obese people still go and eat massive amounts of food knowing that it's killing them? Why do people use deodorant when we know it's horribly harmful? Why does anyone eat ANY processed food what-so-ever knowing that there are probably more harmful and addictive additives in it than cigarettes? Why do many people take pills that are prescribed to them and yet don't need knowing that there are ALSO chemicals in pills that are poisonous and harmful?

Because we all die sometime and I'm sick of this world trying to think that bans like this are going to effect that fact.

I'm so irate over this restriction on freedom that I vow for every cigarette I'm forced to smoke outside of a bar from now on that the puff of smoke in my lungs is going to be blown directly into a non-smokers face as they walk in and out of the building. There's no law on that yet.

I have no problem with steping outside or going somewhere else for a cigarette out of respect for others. As a matter of fact I live in a household rite now that does not allow smoking inside, so I smoke when I take thier dogs outside. I allso have a child & I don't smoke around her, when I have my own place I smoke outside or in a designated room with ventelation.

I don't understand why non-smokers would be at a bar DRINKING of all things, which is also harmful for your body and causes cancer aswell. Shouldn't they be at home making salads out of purely organic celery, breathing the sterile air that their HEPA filtered furnaces are churning out, wearing fully organically grown cotton-made clothing, cleaning their counters with Lysol a billion times because a microbe might be forming on them, watching Richard Simmons specials and living 100% healthy "righteous" lives  ?

Maybe we should build a bubble that non-smokers should wear since they're so concerned about not being exposed to any elements on the earth that could possibly cause them any harm.:rolleyes:

 @ Cherny.

Oh yeah, sorry. They're allowing it there because they have to compete with the Indian casinos, right?

NO...that's an EXCUSE...it is because, they threatened the politicians with NO FUNDS...

...BOUGHT IT OFF...ABOVE THE BOARD...
