Believe it or not, inbreeding is actually common in many species of arachnids.

It helps to strengthen the positive genetic traits, rather than weakening them. My largest young female P. audax was a result of breeding the strongest male from Arwen's (the matriarch's) first brood, back to her. Azhriaz (the strongest female of the second brood) is so far the most docile towards human contact, the most successful in hunting, has the most desirable markings, and is twice as large as her dam. I just wish she would quit eating the males I put in with her. :X
