Your Wish Toys of Christmases Past

Think back to when you were a small child, when the holidays were still full of wonder and possibility (and you paid a lot more attention to the toy commercials interspersed with cartoons :p ).

Which toys (or other gifts) did you wish for Father Christmas to bring? What were the best gifts you received, if you were so lucky?

This is not for modern toys and gifts-- this is a childhood nostalgia thread. If need be, we will start yet another thread for "toys you would want NOW, if you were a little kid."

I remember really wanting these two fashion dolls, and getting them. :p

This one one of my fave Christmas toys ever received, when I was very little (shades of gothiness, maybe?):

Weebles Haunted House

I remember wanting this so badly, and having it sent to me from my Michigan grandma. It sure takes me back through the years, seeing this commercial! I was amazed when the toy I was thinking of came up on the first search!

Even when I was a little one, I wanted Halloween stuff for Christmas! :p

I also wanted this Hot Wheels parking garage and town set, but I didn't get one until it was handed down from an older cousin.

I also loved this toy I received as a child:

The soft little log house was like a carrying case. The three little beavers were finger puppets, and they squeaked if you squeezed them. There were all sorts of little accessories, and a storybook was included.

..and what kid in their right mind didn't want THESE?

G.I. Joe Defiant Space Shuttle

I really wanted this, but didn't get one until I was an adult. I purchased it at a convention. It was one of my favourite pieces in my long-lost vintage toy collection. :cry

In my imaginary childhood world, Ken was too foppish for Barbie. She liked real men, so I always had a few Joes around. :)

I had the mickey's castle weeble wobble playset and Dumbo's circus. I still have the blonde chick that shoots out of the cannon.

I owe a week's grounding to weeble wobbles. My sister insisted on calling them egg people, and when I got frustrated with trying diplomatic measures to gain them the sort of respect and dignity they deserved, I resorted to more aggressive means of social justice. My mother was not pleased however with my humanitarian efforts when she found out that I forced my sister to experience first hand that weeble wobbles do not in fact taste like eggs.

For me every year it was Star Warsez. I still watch them every Christmas time because it's pretty much a tradition.

And d00des, check this out

I loveded me Ollie the Octopus. When I first opened it, I was like "mom... wtf?" But when I started stretching it and wraping it around my dad's big bald nugget, my mind was flooded with the possibilities.

My sister had Olivia the octopus, which was pink. She kept it until she was about 15 and then the sophomore class nymphomaniac insisted on paying 50 bucks for it. Never figured out why though.

I got a lot of lincoln logs too. That same christmas I also got a toy air rifle which I cleverly modified to fire lincoln logs at a high rate of speed. I could hit the back of my dad's big bald head at 30 paces. Best Christmas present I ever had for all of 4 hours. Now if my brother hadn't spilled egg nog on my dad's new tool set, he probably would have just snapped the gun over his knee and not my brothers new "Irvin the Inchworm" ride.

"'Tis the season to be merry!"

"That's my name!"

"No shit?"

speaking of GI Joes, the Rolling Thunder was the proverbial shit.

IF you took out the rockets in the internal launch bay, you could totally fit a small puppy inside and when that little snausage muncher leaped out and attacked, it spelled d00m for the forces of COBRA. ( It also meant several hours of re-assembling your COBRA soldiers.

BTW in a crash-up-derby, Rolling Thunder> Barbie camper van

post-3208-1227121050_thumb.jpg <--- lol weak

my sister still brings that up every Christmas. And I still bring up the fact that Ken would still have a head if only he had worn his seatbelt.

I wanted one of those for YEARS. My parents finally got me one when I was 18 during my freshman year of college. I made some of those pasty brownies for my roommies in the dorm.

I'd quite forgotten about those stretch octopi, they were a lot of fun!!

Another of my favourite toys I received was a "Camping The Smokey The Bear Way" playset, by Tonka. I remember it had a green tent, a shovel, a canteen, a compass, a book, a Smokey the Bear plastic figure, and some other stuff which is lost to my memory. Try as I might, I CANNOT find a photo of this toy set on the internet!!! I've found a few mentions, but no pics.

P.S. Easy-Bake Ovens RAWWWKKKK.

Stretchy toys were great, as long as you didn't cut them open like I did. They're full of smelly syrupy stuff that's not easy to scrub out of carpet.

I had this guy when I was 5:

Really? Mine was the model that only burnt down the whole fucking kitchen and got us grounded for a year or so.

And for the record, everything that I wanted when I was six is what I still want now. Instead, some where along the way, I must have fucked up and been naughty (which big, fat, toy-hostage man is privy to, apparantly) because right after I turned 18 I started to not get that stuff anymore, I got other boring shit, like frying pans and socks....wtf...? What the hell did I do to deserve this?
