......you'd be laying on the floor with your buddies......head to head...in the dark, tripping out on something and listening to pink floyd.

The album gets quiet then all of the sudden......bang! Clang! cRash tinkle click!

That part where the clocks come in man it makes you jump out of your skin!

What was that album anyway....?

I have never liked Pink Floyd. So I cannot relate.

And I never sat around just listening to music with my friends. Listening to music was alwas a pretty solitary experience for me.

Now, if you want to talk about standing in the living room with ginormous headphones on, and the soundtrack to "Saturday Night Fever" on the turntable, and dancing flawlessly the elaborate version of the hustle they did in the film, that I can share. :)

Didn't discover pink floyd until after it wasn't "current" anymore. Even though I'm old and such. (but not quite old enough)

I always tended to listen to music from *whatever* time period, not necessarily what is out at the time , same way as i do now anyway. Guess i'm weird.

When Kiss and Floyd was big i was listening to the Beatles and Elvis. When NIN (not that i don't have all NIN albums) hit i was listening to Hendrix and The Pixies. When Nirvana (same as NIN comment) was big i was listening to The Doors and Johnny Cash.

Ha.. I'm kinda the same way. I listen to what I want, when I want. Not when it's popular or whatever. Same with clothes. I wear what I like.

I have every Pink Floud album.. yes, Albums, all the solos including the highschool biology soundtrak that Rog did and the jazz albums that Nick did. 53 bootlegs... The Peel sessions... and a few movies...

Dark Side of the Moon... I have that in Stereo and Quadraphonic...

I might have tripped to them at some point...

I almost forgot... I have the 45s too... including the promotional 45 of Bring the Boys back home that comes in the fold out sleeve.

Then I give you permission to smack Windy upside the head for not knowing one of the biggest selling, not to mention greatest, albums of all time. (gently though, since she took a break from Seal and bad hip hop/techno to highlight Floyd  )

I'm a big fan, although nowhere even close to you.

I don't think I'll ever have ALL their albums, THOUGH I do have a bike.

In fact,

"You can ride it if you like

It's got a basket

A bell that rings

And things to make it look good

I'd give it to you if I could

But I borrowed it"

Besides just being an incredibly good album, don't forget this is the alternative soundtrack to the Wizard of Oz. I remember hearing a rumor that there was a CD stamping Plant in Germany or something that solely made this CD and no others for years and years and years. Wonder if that was true?

"You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.

I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.

I've got a cloak. It's a bit of a joke.

There's a tear up the front. It's red and black.

I've had it for months.

If you think it could look good, then I guess it should."

This, this is my favorite Floyd song... sometimes I swear it was written about me.

You got to be crazy, you gotta have a real need

You gotta sleep on your toes and when you're on the street

You got to be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed

And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight

You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking

And after a while, you can work on points for style

Like the club tie, and the firm handshake

A certain look in the eye and an easy smile

You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to

So that when they turn their backs on you

You'll get the chance to put the knife in

You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder

You know, it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder

As you get older

Yeah, and in the end you'll pack up and fly down south

Hide your head in the sand

Just another sad old man

All alone and dying of cancer

And when you lose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sewn

And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone

And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around

So have a good drown, as you go down all alone

Dragged down by the stone

Gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused

Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used

Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise

If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze

Deaf, dumb and blind, you just keep on pretending

That everyone's expendable, and no one has a real friend

And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the winner

Everything's done under the sun

But you believe at heart everyone's a killer

Who was born in a house full of pain

Who was trained not to spit in the fan

Who was told what to do by the man

Who was broken by trained personnel

Who was fitted with collar and chain

Who was given a pat on the back

Who was breaking away from the pack

Who was only a stranger at home

Who was ground down in the end

Who was found dead on the phone

Who was dragged down by the stone

Who was dragged down by the stone

I f*&%ing love Animals!

I don't know why this is considered one of their more "difficult" albums.

(It's not Atom Heart Mother for Christ's sake! or even UmmaGumma for that matter)

With all the Orwellian imagery, it's interesting how you associate with this.

I always viewed this album as a wry look at capitalism.

You could view Animal Farm the same way. (Orwell was a socialist--though he wasn't a big fan of Communism)

Of course Waters puts his own personal stamp on everything.

I like how completely inside his head we get with The Wall.

I still can't fully fathom how The Wall was so hugely popular,

and that you'd go to an average guy's house at the time and see it sitting alongside their copy of Saturday Night Fever.

Animals... the theme was very much modeled after Animal Farm.

You would have to know and understand me to know why I like that album so much... which will never happen "here" as in DGN becuase I can not convey my true personality in this medium. I am no writer... so my tone and personality are hard to present.
