i am leaving on monday for fort wayne indiana to attend a cdl training program. you know driving a truck. there are 50,000 empty new trucks sitting in different parking lots all over the state. their is a huge nationwide demand for drivers. they pay me to take the three week course. it cost around 5,000$ but almost any company will pay an make that investmeant in anybody who passes a drug test. average earnings start at 40,000 a year at first but you can make around 80,000 a year if you do it hardcore.

all you do is drive, a three week course, 700 to 900 $ a week. get to see the country. sleep when you want drive when you want. the demmand is so high you could quit a companny and start working again just about anywhere whenever you feel like it. xm radio labtop satelite communication. sounds fun anyway.

just thought i'd share that info maybee it will offer some hope for a few readers. there are many schools and adds in pappers. my buddy worked over the road for 6 months and they offered him a regional job at an hourly rate. 5 am to 2 pm 5 days a week drive to the end of 96 an back make 700$ a week. thats for real all he does is drive no car wash or customers or that shit. of course everything has it's downside.

i am not selling nothing i just want to share this info maybee it can help you.

The catch to all this? Yeah, they pay for your classes, but then they pwn your ass for the next 2-4 years driving across the country constantly slowly paying that class off little by little. They don't pay for you, they LOAN you the money for the class.

Most companies you have to sign for a year to get your classes paid. If for some reason you don't work out and you leave or are fired within the year, your stuck with the bill.

But trucking can be great money as long as you drive the miles. If your truck is broken or in for service, or you take too much time off is when you start to lose money.

Always become a company driver opposed to a lease driver to start out. Some companies will offer you a lease option right off the bat. Not a good idea to start out with.

Don't EVER go to training you have to pay for. Chances of you being hired are extremely slim ... they want drivers trained THEIR way. If they do hire you, they'll end up sending you to their own training anyway. Same thing, you'll usually have to sign a year to get it paid for.

I used to be married to an OTR trucker, who switched between many companies often for better pay and benefits. He got his training paid for ... he leased trucks, he did good and he got screwed.

My PM's are open if you want my expierience or have questions you think I may be able to answer.

Reaper did this a few years ago and from what I understand he enjoys his decision. He was in a pretty hard time when he started but seems to have pretty much turned his life around. Best of luck to yaa!

Yes I was. I can say I don't regret my decision. Sometimes I only regret my decision of becoming a terminal manager. So much stress coming from both driver and corporate! But yeah, I went to Swift school to get my training. 3 weeks and only $3000 for training. After I left Swift I went with my current company National Distributors (since April 04) and never looked back. I also never ended up hearing from Swift about their school money. I guess since I didn't pay for it, I didn't get my certificate of graduation. My company ended up hiring me anyway by verifying my credentials, so now I have experience and never needed the certificate. Free school! haha, I wonder if they ever changed their policy as a lot of people did the same as I did.

I did every kind of driving job for this one company. OTR, regional, dedicated, local, and now full fledged terminal manager. I really feel these days that I was best suited as a truck driver. I don't have much heart to enforce the rules when it comes to my drivers because I was in their shoes too. Sucks being in the medium. But yeah, I make good steady money and I am home every day now making just over 50k a year. Only time will tell though if I continue to work out as a manager.

    • What If I actually finish my Masters degree? Like what if I don't screw up? I mean I am almost half way finished. The part that scares me is the amount of money that it costs and the fact I have to do an internship the last two semesters,  I mean I have burned some bridges in the field um, lots of bridges like I'm cool with people from Jobs I've quit though but this field I been kinda medically retired and it sucks, I want to try and fix myself..my health has improved a lot but I'm still crazy as hell. My bf was impressed because when he first met me we was drinking one night and I was being a goof as I do but all of a sudden my mom's friend called me and wanted me to help her with a situation involving her son and the court system and I immediately sobered up and told her what they should expect and what they could do and my bf was like,  wow, you just snapped right into business like no problem.  I was like yea, I'm not completely crazy yet. Lol Ok ramble over. I'm killing time until this Midnite and Nyquil kick in.
    • The poor lady across the hall is elderly and lives all alone. She has a cat at least one that I seen on her balcony (we had a staring contest) Anyway, the cat piss stench permeates all the way through the door into the hall and into our apartment.  It's so bad like concerningly so. She is very independent, seems very sweet but I don't think she'll allow me to help her out because one day she was trying to get up the stairs with a couple bags and I offered to help but she thanked me very gratefully and said she was OK. I don't want to say anything about the smell and my bf is nose blind and only noticed because I pointed it out.  The smell though..I hate seeing elderly people who have noone😢
