  1. No not really.

Chern, I know ya well enough from your posts to know that I shouldn't have to get deeper into economic detail, and expose other scholastic issues with my kids, but I'll humor you.

Lets use an area of Detroit that I am intimately familiar with. Do you know where Sindbad's Restaurant is? Most of my life my house was 1 block away.

MAP HERE please not that that cross street Edlie didn't exists when I moved. I also hope that newly constructed neighborhood fails. They murdered a lot of Detroit architectural flavor with those boxes they put up.

Naturally from there to 8 mile would be where I would look for a home.

I did find 1 location with everything I would require from a property in Detroit.

Enough bedroom that CPS wouldn't be called on me over.

Armorguard on every door and window.

    Security system.

    Yard is completely fenced in.

    Zero mold.

No soft spots in the roof.

    Cabinetry isn't warped.

    Plumbing is in reasonable condition.

    ETC

You know, not a slum lord property.

    550 a month.

Closest A+ school that successfully teaches children with severe AHHD wile they are unmedicated.

    roughly 15 miles at 5k a year

    Public school, 60 miles.

Closest Plane 'ol A+ school roughly 30 miles. considering this one? Is a school bus going to pick up and drop off my kids? Yeah that's right, school of choice is still a school of "Can you afford for your child to go there?" People looove to forget about that.

Kay, now I have to drive my kids to school.

That means 60 mile round trip drop off.

Then my wife will have to drive me to work because we can afford 2 cars. about 110 round trip.

60 mile pick up for the kids and 110 for me.

1650 miles a week. that doesn't evenly divide by 18 so I'll significantly reduce it to 1008.

AT 1008 that is only 56 gallons of gas a week. even at 2 bucks a gallon, 448 a month doesn't make any sense and gas is 3.75 right now.

Oh I know the answer. Give up my full time job for lower pay and less hours, assuming I could find a local job at all. Yeah right, ughugh sure.

Even If I didn't have to pay transportation to and from school, the distance I would have to travel for my job would kill savings in rent and then some. Call it a 100 mile round trip once a day. 500 miles a week divided by 18 miles a gallon multiplied by 3.75 a gallon times four weeks equals 416.666...

How about the cost for my son to see his pro bono therapist?

Looking at it from a school standpoint cheaper rent can cost my children their already bleak future and looking at it from a strictly monetary stand point it can cost me even more than what I am paying.

Congrats. Food stamps are right for you and maybe 1/3 of the others on it. I agree with the OP, a lot of people on it are abusing it. I got a buddy that makes roughly 8.50 an hour, 30 hours per week. By choosing to eat less-quality food, he supports himself in an apartment that is $650 per month plus Internet, and Electric. I won't say he does this no problem, but he is putting more money INTO his bank accounts than what comes out. Rammen Noodles, McDonald's, and Mac and Cheese with $5 Multivitamins may not sound good/health to you, but it keeps a man alive. Anyone using food stamps should be on the same starvation rations at that. Canned goods only, maybe fresh produce if you're lucky, but nothing Vegan or Organic or any other "luxury" class food, such as junk food. If/when you make enough money to do so, THEN you get the choice of what to eat. If you're relying on handouts, you get just enough quality to prevent health issues.

That's my stance. Don't like it, move away from Capitalistic states. I hear China is looking for english speaking teachers.

  2. Really?

What you just quoted didn't come off as purposely absurd?

    Even with the LOL?

Oh well, still made the points that you cant counter legitimate reasons regardless of how illogical they are and careful how you say things.

"LOL" makes a post ok just as much as a qualifying statement that explains that you mean no offense. Don't complain about other people's posting habits and then make the same mistake yourself.

    No offense.

  3. there are cases where some people such as those with manic depressive problems who need the meds in order to live a semi stable life. i know a person who is on lithium, xanex, wellbutrin, and bupropion. this person needs their meds to stay emotionally stable around other people. they have a hard time dealing with stress. people should never suggest that people never take such meds or else there would be a lot more dead people.

Well... with China overcrowding... is more dead people a bad thing?

  4. I base my self confidence on 2 factors.

1-What my friends say about me. If I don't consider you a friend, then I don't care what you say, but if I do, then it impacts me greatly.

2-And this kind of trumps #1. Booze. The proportion of Alchohol to Blood in my veins is directly proportionate to my current self esteem. Less booze, less happy. More booze, more happy, and I can ignore the hurtful, painful things my friends say about me.

  5. If I file a complaint, I will most likely have a target on my back if I cross the border again.

This is a common misconception, but is completely false. Obviously, the male officer didn't approve and knew that she was out of line. File the damn complaint. You want to know why people get away with harassment (especially of the sexual kind)? Because the victims get scared that something will happen to them if they report. Which is bullshit. It's the same thing with child molestation. The kid thinks that they will be doing something wrong by telling on the molester. So, if you want to fade into obscurity and deal with the situation without actually doing something about it, fine. But you'll get no sympathy from me unless you stand up and do something about it.

P.S.: The ACLU won't do a damn thing. You have to file a complaint with the actual organization involved. Even if you do not remember the officer's name, chances are she's already had a few flags raised and they'll know who you're talking about.

  6. I've always felt that people are more attracted to the idea of a celebrity than the person themselves. I'm a guy, yeah the lower half of me is attracted to all sorts of things, but at the end of the day, having never met anyone pictured on this page, I'm into people, not ideas...

I WOULD agree with you... but the problem is, you and everyone else are just as attracted to ideas as you are to people. Why else would we have fantasies about this we know will never come to pass? Great, celebraties aren't your thing... but I'm sure you've got that one (or more) fetish that you think is REALLY HOT, but know that you'll either never act on it, or know that it's too unrealistic to ever happen.

    Still lingers though...

  7. God, I remember playing WoW... back when Tauren couldn't get mounts, but got a 15% buff to movement speed to compensate. Unfortunately, I don't have the desire to play a game that takes 80+ hours to hit max level and has no rewards to speak of until you hit that level, anymore.

It's why I played Guild Wars instead, while that game was still alive.

If some unforeseeable accident occurs and I find myself playing WoW again, or you join me on a much better MMO (if/when one climbs up from the morass), I'll be more than happy to guild with you!

  8. typing this up for you gals and guys...

  9. I think the things they do are pretty much motivated by the anger of the mainstream public outcries. I find it hilarious that banks and other corrupt institutions think they can outsmart the hackers. Although what they are doing is illegal and taking law into their own hands, you think politicians and law enforcement are going to delve deep into what the hackers have been doing? I think not.

Yeah, its the same thing with piracy. You can't stop pirates, they WILL find a way to play your shitty game without paying for it. You can only hurt your legitimate customers.

  10. mmmmm....interesting, but the Bible always taught me love and forgiveness.

Is this a "lets make fun of Christianity" topic? Cause I have never found it very funny to make fun of someone's religious believes no matter who or what they may put their believes in. To each his own I say and let it be.

I agree. Just make sure you know what you are believing in. Unfortunately, most "Christians" have never read the bible in its entirety (not even the mis-translated, ever popular, King James Bible). Anyone who throws a dart at a board of religions and says "I believe that one!" without an iota of research into what it actually is that they claim to believe, I would say is in a hell of their own devising. Also, believing something just because your parents did I would rate up there with the dart board thing.

On behalf of "real Christians," I beg that you actually bother to read the damn 2000 pages of the bible before you claim to be devout. Hell, that's less pages than the Harry Potter series combined into a single book, but I know a lot of people who have read the whole series while simply trusting their "Pastor" or whatever to tell them the truth of what is in the bible.

    Be faithful, not blind.

  11. Time Splitters Future Perfect. You come across a locked door, and a time rift opens up near you. Your future self gives you the key to the door, but reminds you to give it to your past self later. You later give the key to your past self, thus begging the question... where's you get the first key?

Which would be better for Humanity as a whole: A Utopian society that has evolved beyond the need for money, or a grand war of Good vs Evil where aliens are clearly the aggressors and all of humanity bands together to fight them off.
