RIP, Doug McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb
Scary Guy replied to Simon Bar Sinister's topic in Music Discussion
Nitzer Ebb was one of the first industrial bands I got into when a good friend gave me a bunch of burnt CDs. Sad to hear but I guess he's had health problems for a couple years now. I remember the last time I saw him, and IIRC he was touring with his kid. Not playing the same venue but they were just traveling together to save on costs. https://www.stereogum.com/2311466/nitzer-ebb-frontman-douglas-mccarthy-dead-at-58/news/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_McCarthy -
Just because you can make an almost infinite amount of tracks doesn't mean you have to use them all. "Less is more" in many cases. Some of the best tracks are only four pieces (drums, bass, guitar, guitar/piano.) That said V3 is probably my favorite. Things are spread out more and the timing seems better, even though it does have twice as many tracks on it as V1. I'd take some of the parts and split them off into other tracks, or have the track morph into them later on in the track, spread things out more. But of course others may have different opinions on it.

Yeah, had I not been an only child I probably still wouldn't care. I've never really been one for "you're supposed to do this." But it's also hard to speak in "what ifs" too. Maybe it'd have made me more responsible, or maybe I'd have literally killed everyone over the stress and aggravation. I still get that younger helping folks thing. Recently an Arab kid (23) came to an Atheist meetup and I've been talking to him. Mental issues and a bad family life where no one really understands him or even tries to do not make for a great time. He found drugs and trouble with the law. A story all too common these days. I do what I can to help him out though with advice, though we really only talk over the phone. He introduced me to a friend of his too who was waking up from religion and also had some questions about evolution. He called me his white dad, which I know was hyperbole but it was still a nice compliment. As long as he doesn't beg me for money I guess I don't mind.

Any musicians interested in Deathrock/Gothrock ??
Scary Guy replied to Lucyfur's topic in General Promotion & Want Ads
Not that this gets a lot of activity, but it's been three years, which is also around the last time @Lucyfurlogged on here. This can probably be unpinned :P -
You mean it gets worse? :P My problem is it was never that deep as I always knew it was bullshit. So I've never given it the proper attention it was due, nor have I ever really cared to. I've just always valued enjoying life too much to spend time worrying about it. There used to be a DJ on the radio who often espoused the motto of "we're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time" and I took that to heart. It works for both going out with friends or just life in general (which ideally is also spent with friends.)

I helped a good friend with some PC stuff, and then some other stuff. Messing with my own tech as well. Pretty accomplished really. and yet...

Update: I nuked it a few months back.

So I just got back from Happy Endings and I saw @DJ Saintthere. He told me that after I got kicked out of High Dive that later on Mike also attacked him, and Mike and his crew were also kicked out. Then we talked about the scene and possible upcoming gigs. I hope something comes his way soon, as well as mine too. With the current economy I think more club owners will be hungry to try more things like goth/industrial/other alternative nights. I've also heard that GenZ isn't online dating and is actually going out into the world to meet people which may also help business owners, though they aren't drinking which doesn't really help much. I think more places are going to need to start serving food and mocktails to make up the difference. Then Mike showed up at Happy Endings which I thought was highly likely because I hadn't seen him there in a while, and @DJ Aaron Hingst,@elektrosonik, and his husband Tim were all there too. He did something else I wasn't expecting... Which was he actually shook my hand and said it was good to see me, which caught me a little off guard. He didn't apologize for anything but it's a start I think. I told him I was sorry to hear about @djpleasurekitten's passing (which I was/am. Despite the rift that ended up existing between us we were friends at one point.) So maybe he's moving on finally? If so then I'm glad. I'm still not sure if I'll ever go back, but it is at least a start, and it's nice to actually see he's trying to bury the hatchet in something other than my skull.

Stargate Universe, which everyone said sucked but I'm actually enjoying it? Like there are less jokes, but lots of dark humor, and people might actually die rather than have 10ft thick plot armor? Yes please more of this!

Failbook is blocked so I can't see any of the info. "Oh you don't need to login to view!" No, you don't understand... This is my /etc/hosts file: # Block Meta IPv6 fe80::1%lo0 facebook.com fe80::1%lo0 login.facebook.com fe80::1%lo0 www.login.facebook.com fe80::1%lo0 fbcdn.net fe80::1%lo0 www.fbcdn.net fe80::1%lo0 fbcdn.com fe80::1%lo0 www.fbcdn.com fe80::1%lo0 static.ak.fbcdn.net fe80::1%lo0 static.ak.connect.facebook.com fe80::1%lo0 connect.facebook.net fe80::1%lo0 www.connect.facebook.net fe80::1%lo0 apps.facebook.com12 # Block Meta IPv4 0.0.0.0 facebook.com ~~~~~ A METRIC FUCKTON OF OTHER FB DOMAINS ~~~~~ 0.0.0.0 zh-tw.facebook.com I had to edit it and cut off many lines because it's 2171 lines long and the overwhelming majority is just Facebook domains. Those IPs for v4 and v6 mean they lead to the HTTP equivalent of /dev/null X/Twitter is blocked too. I need to block Alphabet/Google and Microsoft as well, but they're actually useful for certain things (damn you YouTube and GitHub!) -
You can trust anyone you want. The only question is whether or not they're deserving of that trust. No risk = no reward. As such you have to let yourself be vulnerable sometimes and realize that all people will let you down eventually whether it's intentional or not. The frequency that it happens is what's important.

Sorry, I don't check this as often as I should. Anyway document everything (although it sounds like @Trene4000already has been from her post.) It's okay to cry and break down, but not in front of them. Never give them the satisfaction of seeing you crack. If anything I'd go out of my way to piss them off, but I don't like being that guy either (and as such I'm not very good at it, except sometimes when I'm not intending to be.) I try to only help those whom deserve it, but that's often hard to judge. Seeing how someone treats other people is a pretty good indicator of whether or not they're worthy. Sociopathic narcissistic asshats are very much not worthy. I hope things are going well for you guys.

I will say it isn't all bad yet though. We survived four years of the orange asshole. We might survive another four. All is not lost, until it is. There are those on that side that are going to do everything in their power to take and keep that power though. Instead of the illusion of a one party system masquerading as a two party system, it really will just be a one party system. People are talking about actively moving out of the US and renouncing their citizenship, or revolution if it comes to that. The woke and DEI scare tactics of the Russians, Chinese, and others have set in. They have been trying to debase the USA for decades now ever since the world wars and I think it's really starting to pick up steam. All isn't lost yet, but it's currently 90 seconds to midnight, and that number is decreasing all the time. We just have to wait and see. If people hit their breaking point by losing their comfort and convenience (and possibly their food/housing) then people may be held accountable for their misdeeds. Also the president is now a convicted felon so... LOCK HIM UP!

Sometimes I think like that, and then I remember that it'll get here eventually and there's no need to rush things. Maybe if I had chronic pain (I mean more than emotionally.) There are times though when I have a great night and forget that's there though. Also lots of friends would be sad if I wasn't, and my goal is to outlive as many of them as I can so they don't need to feel sad (and my enemies so they don't get the satisfaction of living in a world without me in it. Spite is a great motivator.)

Who hardly knew about it? I've been hearing about it since I was a kid in various media. But that was bound to happen when you're attracted to postapocalyptic dystopian hellscapes.

Conflicted, moreso than usual.

Getting ready for a friend of a friend's birthday party.

I just heard from Ulf. While we had our issues it is still sad to hear. I knew she had some major health issues like 10 years ago so it isn't a complete shock to me. Makes sense it was on a Friday the 13th though. I will update the list :( UPDATE: I heard from a friend (so this is hearsay, but I trust him very much) that she had an aneurysm in the supermarket and just dropped instantly. So at least it was quick and painless.

> New > I literally played this 20 years ago at the club. No this is off of "Welcome to Earth" which was released in 2000. This also mixes well with Covenant - Dead Stars (about equally as old.)

Well it happened, understandably but it still sucks. I hated them both so I was going to be unhappy either way, but I do admit I hate Trump slightly more because of the narcissism, egomania, xenophobia, and misogyny. On top of that that insufferable base of his who think that they are free to act the same way now that he's won. The apologetics from them were horrible too where they handwaved away legitimate criticisms, and mocking those who brought them with "orange man bad!" or saying that they have TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) which honestly sounds like what MAGA are infected with. The one good thing to come out of this is punk music is going to absolutely rock for the next few years. However I really just have one question... https://www.loudersound.com/features/andrew-eldritch-sisters-of-mercy-will-make-another-album-if-trump-is-elected IT'S HAPPENED TWICE NOW ANDY, WHERE'S OUR FUCKIN' ALBUM‽ Well, I guess at least I'll get to keep my guns.
