  1. Yeah, you know, it was all right... Hahaha who am I kidding, it was great. Fucking stupendous. :D:D I'm actually just writing about it in my journal, so I'll give you some copy posta. XD Toronto was great. Depeche Mode was great. I do have to admit that I now realize I just don't enjoy the big shows like I do the little ones, so I'll probably avoid them in the future - but then, the only band I'd probably ever want to see there is Depeche Mode, and I would go again for them. All the other bands I'm a big fan of would always play small venues, which I'm cool with. XD The show was good, and they played most of my favorites, and wonderfully. I was really really hoping for In Your Room and especially Waiting for the Night to Fall, and they played both. No World in Your Eyes or Lillian but not too surprised. Precious was the only song off of Playing the Angel. They played all the 'oldies but goodies' - Strangelove (with an incredibly strange video), Master and Servant, Walking in My Shoes, Never Let Me Down, Fly on the Windscreen, and of course the obligatory Enjoy the Silence (the presence of which, do not get me wrong, I do not mind in the SLIGHTEST). They played quite a few from the new album: In Chains, Wrong, Hole to Feed, Come Back, Little Soul... Anyway, a shitton of awesome songs. :D They didn't chatter much though, pretty much just played song after song. I missed the talking - I enjoy listening to the bands speak. I was a little disappointed in that. Oh well. A LOT of pot around us too. I guess it's a lot more common in Canada. Goddamn. It was bad enough at NIN. I think I may be done with lawn shows for this reason, unless it's Mode again. I'd be willing to put up with it for them. But then, when they come again I may just fork out for the better tickets. A lot of money, but it'd be worth it. It was Martin's birthday the day before, so of course we sang Happy Birthday to him. Favorite video was played for Enjoy the Silence and was the three of them as astronauts. There was this big round ball of video in the middle in front of the huge normal screen. It was pretty weird. The astronauts kept moving so whoever was in the middle was positioned to have the ball as their head so it was huge and round. XD Pretty fun. Most random video was for In Chains and had a young black boy and old white man next to each other, and they morphed into each other. What a touching message...only completely trite and overdone and had nothing to do with the song. Weird but okays. The big ball during this one had a woman climbing, like as if she was on stairmaster or something, and her clothes kept changing. Very just random. Most 'somehow can't divert eyes' video was for Strangelove, and had two almost naked women, a redhead and an Asian, and the Asian was sucking on the toes of the redhead. They walked in, sucked toes, and walked out. Strange. Very strange. Sometimes the video showed recorded video of the band members dancing, and sometimes it showed live closeups of them performing right then. Overall I don't care for the videos...I came to see them live, not some other random thing, and I'm on the lawn, so unless the videos are there to show me the band, I don't want it. I liked it when they showed the band live (last instance described above), and didn't like it the rest of the time. Eh. (On that note I liked how VNV did video, as an accent to their playing, not as a centerpiece. The band should be the centerpiece, and live, not recorded.) What else...I guess that's about all I have to say about the show for now, other than that luckily it did NOT rain during the show proper (YAY omg), but had rained a lot the day before and earlier in the day, so the lawn was still a mudpit and my blanket was pretty much mud-colored by the end. Oh well, no biggie! :D Oh, and I spent a LOT of money on merch. XD I don't usually write show reports, so this probably is not very good of one, but there you have it anyway. XD
  2. Already planning to hit up Bovine Sex Club. It's really near my hotel. Probably check out Neu+ral too. I'm disappointed they closed Savage Garden which was apparently the place to go. But mostly mad because I thought there was a retro/Mode night on, and apparently it was moved. WTF.
  3. AWESOME!!! Though I must say, 700 people in the Works might be a litttttle crowded....
  4. I usually get there for the opening and try to get near the front, because I want to be near the front for the main band. My personal pet peeve, though, is when people are there for the headliner only, take the front and center spot, and then TALK WITH THEIR FRIENDS LOUDLY through the entire opening band's set. Sometimes I am there for that opening band. Ayria is a great example. I love her. I've been to 3 shows now where she was an earlier act. When I saw Cruxshadows, I was there for Ayria. I don't really care about the Cruxshadows. But people hogging the first 3 rows were being assholes and just chatting. I wish someone would notice I'M just there for Ayria, and let me through to the front and then I will leave again and let them have it for the main band. When people let me do this? I am in heaven. It has happened and it is lovely. If you are there for the headliner and saving your spot - more power to you. I appreciate that. I've done the same thing. But if you aren't into the opener at all, don't fucking act bored and talk through it and stand between me and the band. If you see someone behind you who knows all the words to the opener and getting really into it? Chances are that's why they're there. Let them through to the front if you aren't watching anyway on the agreement that they'll get out of your way before your band. I wish things worked this way. I wish people had more courtesy about this.
  5. I really hope the War Tapes are not trying to be goth.... I have to wait till I get home to watch this video... :(
  6. That first sign looks like a parody! CCTV is becoming more and more prevalent, but I'm surprised they would advertise it so blatantly, almost TRYING to look like 1984...the eyes everywhere are just creepy and the style of art is sooo ....1984. What were they thinking?
  7. ::gives chocolate:: what's next Friday?
  8. I wish I could find the definitive Toronto goth club. Argh.
  9. Though anyone who doesn't have tickets would have a hard time...it's completely sold out (inc lawn). It's going to be a great show! Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a good club for Sat night! Savage Garden closed and there doesn't seem to be much going on. D:
  10. I beg to differ - this depends on your tastes. Often after 3 they'll play some awesome older gothrock stuff, like Siouxsie, older Depeche, Cure, even once in a while Bauhaus or ASF. I love this stuff so I approve of this. But every week is different and every DJ is different, so you don't know what they'll play exactly. But I don't think it's true (in my opinion) that they play the best stuff early on. I usually try to stay until the end unless I am dead tired. Oh, and if you get there at 10....well...just don't do it. Firstly, the first hour is not an actual DJ anyway, just a CD - because no one is there yet. No one. Get there just before 12. That's when people start showing up. Any earlier than 11 and you could be the only one there besides staff. But if you pay attention to this board, you can get the "secret number" to let you in free before 12, so many people try to get there by 12 to take advantage of that.
  11. Wondering why the deadcat isn't at the works...
  12. I'm thinking there are way too many lyrics on Sounds of the Universe. HAND CRAMP ARGH
  13. Ageism! Ageism! Rev's always looking down on me for being a WHOLE SIX YEARS YOUNGER THAN HIM!!
  14. I really want flyers but not sure if I'll make it out tonight. So much prep to do for Toronto this weekend...Damn. I'll have to get some next time for sure if I don't make it. Be sure to save some for me!!! :D:D
  15. Come out to City, as everyone says. It's a good place. Not super crowded on Fridays but not dead. Good music, good drinks, friendly people. Pretty safe. Park in the lot. It's all good. XD
  16. Gotta say, I also don't get where this entry came from...I don't think anyone on here is ageist...it's one of the most mixed-age places I see, actually. Everyone treats everyone else pretty much equally, whether 18 or 45. I don't know what prompted this. Gotta admit, even I didn't know "GTFU". I'm more familiar with "GTFO".
  17. I can definitely feel you on this one. And the last one actually. If it were time to go home I could get myself a cookie and then both would be satisfied. XD
  18. Roxy <3<3<3 Probably the only band my father and I both love...not just tolerate. But I liked the Joy Division cover more I have to admit..
  19. Planning a trip even for a couple days is hard work!
  20. Why HELLO there!! :D:D:D

  21. It's good to get over that initial fear and just do it! Now that you've made one thing like that, you can make more, more easily! XD :D:D It's definitely pinkish. I think it's definitely copper, looking at the picture on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brass It's definitely the pink copper piece on the right. XD This is what happens when you aren't the creator - my mother makes these, not me, so I don't know the details! I just take what I fall in love with and sell it! XD We could definitely make a bracelet. I will ask her what kinds of charms and things she has in copper colors. She usually does a lot of beadwork rather than just with metals, but I prefer the metalwork myself. If you like beads or want some color to go with your outfit, let me know what colors you like and we can see what's available!
