  1. Ho-chi-ko. All given about the same stress (course that was in Japan so it's possible, but quite unlikely, that the intonation is a little different. Nonetheless I'm sure the sounds are the same.). It means something like 'shitface' in Spanish apparently? Not entirely sure on that though. About the 'screamy' - I agree. That's why I liked them better in concert. I don't particularly go in for the raspy-voice bands (I don't know how to describe that but you know, like everyone they play on the radio?) usually, so I was a bit disappointed hearing the CD after hearing them live, where they sounded less over-produced and more ...well, natural? But I wouldn't hold my tastes to hold true for everyone - I'm not a very big metal / super hardcore fan.
  2. Yeah that's them. They're really good, I think. They were positively amazing in concert. I liked them better in concert than on the CD - though I like the CD too. I only have their newest though.
  3. (I hope it's okay to start a new thread about just one band..) Does anyone like Hocico? I am curious as to their reputation in the States. I notice that the US was like the only country they're not stopping in at on their current world tour. What's up with that? Are they not popular here? The US is way closer to Mexico than Japan or Europe, but no tour date in the States. Does anyone even know them here? I got the impression in Japan that they were super popular and well-known, so what's up? Sorry if the answer is really obvious and I'm just clueless, like maybe they just had a US tour or something?
  4. Currently reading a little eroguro manga by Suehiro Maruo called Inugami. Just finished Rocking Horse Ballerina, a novel by Otsuki Kenji (not particularly recommended, kinda bland and predictable) and GichiGichi-kun, another by Suehiro, but very mainstream for his stuff...usually his stuff is a lot more controversial. The last book I read in English was 1984 on the plane home. Other books I'm working on include Ban Sensei by Yoshiya Nobuko. The stuff I read is too niche-y. For people who do like manga, has anyone heard of Maruo? Though you might be more likely to know him if you are a fan of old eroguro Edogawa Ranpo stuff than if you are a mainstream manga fan.
