kat (1)
Do you anyone remember your mom or dad being emotional when you hit 18? Or if you have a grown child did it make you sad when your child hit adult status? I'm so sad and tearful.. I'm feeling silly. I should know the answer to this but I need to hear if anyone else has felt this way. Thanks.
TronRP
My mother cried for nearly 2 months when my older sister, her first born, left home for the service at age 17 and spent her 18th birthday on base hundreds of miles away from home. Then a few years later my mother broke down crying standing on South State Street on the UofM campus in Ann Arbor as we checked my little sister into the Helen Newberry dormitory. From what I can tell, a mother or father crying over their children is a part of the growing up process...kinda like an emotional rite of passage...as parent accepts the transition of child into adulthood. Childhood bonds are safely tucked away as new mature ones prepare to be made, but the memories of days past are forever.
kat (1)
As of 20 minutes ago she became an adult. I feel like, okay. Relief that I didn't break down completely.

Trene4000
I was in the military when I turned 18. I only heard about her crying for days.
