Thinking that I miss people posting on DGN. What happened? I blame FB. Constantin says it's FB. It's about the time that FB was established that everyone jumped ship and stopped posting here, it's destructive like Wal-Mart. I wanted a place where I can chill and talk to other goths, make friends and shit like that, keep a community close, but it's hard to do so on FB when every update you make your relatives, HS friends, and coworkers get it front page.

Don't expect me on Facebook anymore. I'm finally seeing how destructive it is and how much ACTUALLY detaches everyone. We all used to hang out with each other, have events, have club nights, etc and we don't anymore. I'm not deleting it, because I do get a hold of other family and old friends through it, but sitting on FB talking to other DGNers when we have a perfectly good board that Troy puts so much into running is fucking ridiculous, imo. Posting on FB more than DGN really hurts the morale of the scene and polarizes people into little cliques and private groups, it's ALL BAD. If you're a person that bitches about the scene but you're posting on Facebook instead of here, guess what? You're the reason you're bitching...SO STOP!

If I post, I'm posting here. It feels good to be home :)

And I thought I was gonna get a bunch of fun facts about you in an introductory format...

The reason that the site isnt getting much traffic on this board is because of the scene itself, not so much because of facebook.

I think that the majority of people in the alt scene, the EBM/Industrial crowd I'm guessing, use Facebook compared to any other social networking site. Even though they might have other reasons for not wanting to post here, like:

Certainly not a proponent of Facebook. FB is just a site full of attention whores (LOL)

but It's not only Facebook...

Think about it, DGN is equally as POISONOUS. And it's becoming more and more a ghost town forum as more people realize that.

There's been a few post that IF people actually read in full, stopped and thought about, then posted a reply could have turned into a wonderful discussion.

Instead, and it's happening with more frequency, post run off course, lose focus and usually end up in a pile of rubbish.

Then there's the fact that if anybody has an independent thought that may go against the majority, all kinds of of alarms start going off. People start getting shunned or even banned. Sure there's a play nice rule but there's some real (overly) sensitive people on this board as well that take it way to personally and if they changed there way of thinking, considered a different point of view, they'd have a better perception of situations. But nobody has control over anybody else.

So many post here are met with such close-mindedness too...

Used to post a lot of music news, new release info and related music things, but soon asked myself "why bother?" So often the post would go unread with no views or responses. These were post about a variety of music styles not just my personal preferences. But like most things in this increasingly dying Detroit scene people were/are just unreceptive to it ALL. It's a forum for discussion, NOT a billboard.

On the very rare occasion somebody mentions a post worth reading and causing me to perhaps be mildly persuaded to check it out, the site is down with Bandwith issues...

It's no wonder people are looking to other sites for entertainment, information or some sense of community.

Well said

The two main problems Iv'e seen on here is slandering and made up bad vibe hatred against others.

Those two things piss me off and why I rarely go on here.

I just stick with Youtube now.and yes I see a lot of ignorant posts about others on that site as well.

society = epic fail.

Eh, FB is just fine for interaction with the DGNers with whom I have a rapport and the "Deadline" faction of the DGN know that they'll see me any chance I get to be out and about.

But, really, my tastes, interests, preoccupations, obsessions, fascinations, and indulgences just aren't on par with the majority of the DGN's, hence my sporadic postings these days. And it's as Nocker and Saint have stated - it's the "scene' and the indifference on the part of folks who fancy themselves being part of a "scene" towards anything that should be relevant to it.

So why even post and share anything when folks can't even be bothered?

I still go on both. I've found this to be the place where most of my CURRENT friends have come from. And a lot of said friends have different opinions than me on social and political matters (you mean I can be a raging liberal and still get along with Chernobyl? The horror). Hell,I probably wouldn't be with my gf right now if it wasn't for DGN (even though she's rarely on here). And a lot of my musical tastes aren't typical of most people on here (as I realized in the bands that suck thread). But that doesn't make me dislike those who disagree with me.

ok.....at one point I just started typing whatever started popping into my head...so...???...enjoy :w00t:

The reason that the site isnt getting much traffic on this board is because of the scene itself, not so much because of facebook.

No, there are indeed plenty of reasons that DGN hasn't seemingly been getting traffic I'm sure, but it WAS around the exact time FB really started to pick up and everyone started to get one that we started to disband more. It seems like Myspace originally (which used to be more popular than FB) took maybe some people away a little bit, but this FB craze that EVERYONE and their brother has been on for a minute now is NUTS. Everywhere I go, all over campus, walking around like downtown areas where people have laptops, anyplace with a computer EVERYONE is on FB. I think it's really damaging because of how silly it really is. We're all sitting around talking to so many overwhelmingly different types of people from all areas of our lives and all sorts of groups at the same time, just little dumb blips you put in as an update momentarily and a bunch of people come by. No actual topics or really hugely in-depth discussions about anything. I know DGN is an internet board also, but it's just different, it's more closely knit with a group of (somewhat) like-minded individuals. It's Detroit based, most people live here, we're assessable humans, not some random dude from Cali you added, not your cousin's brother's friend you never met and probably won't, etc.

I bet if DGN had instant messenger and a place to put our randome status in everyone would come back. I use both. I like both.

We do have a random status updater, actually. The instant message thing has been debated for awhile now. I believe that it was established that it would take away from the group discussion aspect of things. Also, people would be able to go in there and spam, etc, we wouldn't have the manpower to be able to monitor that sort of thing. Now a full on chat room is something I could maybe see, because at least that's group-oriented. I also miss actual chat rooms...ahhh the 90s . Then again, the whole monitoring aspect comes into play with that.

Formerly the "S.D.G.N.W.Q.P.S." The Standard Detroit Gothic . Net Welcome Questions Polls and Suggestions 1.7b

Feel free to ignore anything you feel uncomfortable sharing, dont have the energy for or have covered already. We are just friendly, if a bit nosey. And we ask these same questions fairly often as you may have noticed.

Current location? - Couch in my basement, Warren, MI

Where from? - Couch in my mom's living room (which is now in my basement), Clinton Twp, MI

Gender? ...

Work? ...

School? - MCC. Going for an associate's in law enforcement. Have the rest of the week off, which is now

ruined because this reminded me about classes starting next Monday :wallbash:.

Kids? - Gitzie. I don't do human babies, not my deal.

Married? - Pretty Much

Single? - If you answer yes or sorta to the above, you can pretty much assume the answer for this one.

Hobbies? - I write insane shit on paper. Dreams and aspirations of seeing DGN revived, or at least in a different format, whatever . I float in water and can tie my own boots. Not fully housebroken and sometimes I throw up unexpectedly...sorry.

How Did You Find DGN? - Eons ago, before the time of Raptor Jesus, on Google Abacus, I was in search of people I didn't want to strangle as much as I want to strangle most other people. Years later, I would say I've succeeded :grouphug:

Other Stuff? - Nobody ever puts shit here. It's so vague. Titty sprinkles.

A few things I like about FB....

I have total control over who is in my circle, no unwanted "newbies" to concern myself with. If I get a friend request by someone I don't already know...insta block.

Also, there are some subjects that I want to be able to voice my thoughts/opinions without the "play nice" rule. Sorry DGN, while I understand/respect the reason it's needed/enforced here. On FB, I'm free to say things and not worry about getting booted from my circle.

There are some cool things about DGN but, I have (I feel) more freedom on FB so I am often on there discussing topics more freely.

Yeah SMM, I get why people use both. I'll still have to use FB to keep in contact with non-DGN people. I'm not the type who cares about controlling who is in my circle or not, unless they are super unsavory people that are going to steal shit from my house or try to shoot up in my bathroom. I like having some assholes in a group that I don't care for. Adds variety and it's odd when you know you don't particularly care for each other, but every-so-often you'll come together on something or agree on an idea. Some people aren't like I am in that aspect and it's a big deal to them so I can see why FB would have a better control mechanism for that. I'm just saying that it seems like everyone is getting hypnotized by the damn thing. Virtually everyone HAS to have one now or be alienated socially, and it seems like it has taken a lot of people away from this board, which is more like a tight-knit home rather than some huge supermarket of crazy messages from everyone you've ever met in your life at once.

I've always been a huge proponent of the conspiracy theory that Facebook is Skynet and has been the one responsible for attacking us with bots several times throughout this last year. So at this point, it's really just self-defense.

I wasn't even going to comment on this, but I pretty much agree with the above 100%.

I will admit that probably more than half of the people on my Facebook, including my fiance, are people I met directly through DGN, people I met at City Club and found out that we were connected through DGN, or people I met through friends who were on DGN, but DGN has changed a lot since then, and so have I.

I, too, like the fact that my Facebook is totally comprised of my friends, or at least people that I have rapport with and respect for. When I want to post details about my life, I want the people who are reading them to know me, so that if they respond to what I post, positively or negatively, I know that they are giving me their thoughts on my situations based on what they know about me, not just spewing a bunch of crap based on stereotypes, or trolling just to piss me off.

I still come on here, mostly to read the Nightlife (for obvious reasons) forum, the Current Events (because that's where the interesting discussions take place) forum, and the Relationships and Homelife (because that's where people post about life events like getting married or a death in the family) forum. The rest of the board just really isn't relevant to me anymore. I'm just not that interested in the Detroit goth scene anymore, like I was when I was younger, and knew fewer people. There are only a handful of people on here I interact with who are not already on my Facebook, and at this point, Facebook suits my needs better.

Cherny, if you like DGN better than Facebook then :respect: . I will say that I do sometimes miss the emoticons on Facebook. :yes

I wish there were a way to assimilate the two entities. I can't stand having the different factions is all. Everyone is disconnected now and we cannot have that because we are Borg.

Really?

....I might have to actually get a facebook, maybe people wont think im a troll there...

apparently I can say what I want there too!?!?! hmmmmm

FB groups, legit ones, are usually less troll-tolerable than DGN. That's not 100% the case all the time as they vary, but usually they don't have any set policy and the founder can kick you out for any reason. Some FB groups is probably all trolling, but at that point why not just go to 4chan?
