This is a female Argiope aurantia, or Banana Spider.

Some folks call them a writing spider, as they create little zigzags in their webs. The "writings" are visible in the UV spectrum, and are believed to keep birds from flying through their webs. Birds can see ultraviolet.

A Banana spider really! He is gone now. I looked for him but he must of moved on.

Both Argiope aurantia and Argiope trifasciata (Striped Garden Spider) are quite common in Michigan. Often, their webs are found in close proximity.
