Looking For A Dj To Co-resident

Recommended Posts

In this case, I nominate DJ Saint :D He would be the perfect candidate for a night that tries to focus on the progression of music and not the top 40 dancefloor hits. Good luck with the night, the majority of the people want the same songs every week, and it will be difficult to manage with a bunch of people wanting to hear the regular songs.

if saint is interested & if we get lucky and the night does ok then a guest spot could happen.

i understand how it goes with people wanting the same songs every week. what i try to do is chat with the people making requests and try to swerve them in to picking another track by the artist.

im going to play some of the hits(if requested), but i just want to play more variety.

i believe there are people out there that would go to a night where they dont have to hear tool, orgy, manson, korn, etc. perhaps im wrong, i will find out soon enough.

Honestly in a club setting you have to realize its first and foremost a business, not a musical education or "latest release" center. You can throw your more lesser known stuff in there now and again, but if the place is dead (so to speak) it doesn't matter how adcademicly impressive the playlists are.

Unless some other income source or an amazing promo engine is taking up the slack "unpopular" play listing loses the club money and may eventually kill the place all together. Certain clubs have such a strong historical following that they can slide on this and survive a few DJs that don't realize their job is to make the club money first and foremost. But many clubs cannot, and a "new" club night never could pull that for long without the above mentioned "other people" picking up the slack.

In a club context, Its not about the more jaded patrons (like myself), its about the majority of the patrons musical preferences that are actually footing the bills. The small minority of people that would complain about a kick-ass (but overplayed) series of sets is in the VAST minority, although they tend to be a bit more vocal. Especially on DGN as this is were the more jaded folk are at. I like the "jaded" (read more educated) musical mindset, but it dosn't "play well" at a club.

I don't LIKE that, but its a reality regardless. I've long intentionally shyed away from club DJing as i am very clear on the fact that it is a business and I'd have to play what "the masses" want (even if they dont know they want it just yet) and it might be a bit too restrictive for me. (that and the fact that between DGN , my health and now the radio station when i'd have time to DJ i don't know heh)

i agree 100%.

i mentioned in a earlier post that i played the whats good for business game for the last 4 years that i ran my night in upstate ny(nokturna), with censor i want to do the night differently then what is considered standard/masses friendly. all you can do is try & see where t goes.

i'm looking for a dj to co-resident with me @ a new thursday weekly called censor staring august 16th.

requirements:

have a pretty vast collection as the music thursdays will cover a large amount of musical ground.

mixing skills are not an issue, just know your way around a mixer, etc.

be willing to help with some promo.

and most importantly, NO EGO, i prefer to work with someone mellow & down to earth.

just because you can beatmatch/mix 4(maybe 8) measures of some of some tact-sekt,vnv,combi,etc doesnt mean a thing in the real world, i deal wih enough ego in the techno, house, etc scene.

long story short...

be cool & know your shit.

anyone interested please email me

What *smells self* I shower regularly.

As far as my DJ skills go, oh yeah those suck.

I thought you were on my side?

Notice it says - That DJ Saint guy and not Scary Guy. Perhaps you are confused and read it wrong.

I've known Marc (Msterbeau) for a while. He and I were joking. It's all good and I certainly got no beef with you - never have.

-Marc
