  1. So little update from a very old post lol. I'm happy to say I finally started my project and released some material. Right now I am working with a guitarist out of Dearborn (I'm out of Flint area, driving sucks btw lol) and hopefully with a three piece for live shows may be open to booking soon in 2013. I'm still looking for other people to possibly work with who are willing to drive, have gear and are into the music. I don't come on here much so send me a message on FB or my gmail. https://www.facebook.com/ShadowImageband
  2. Gotta be kidding me, not a single musician who visits this board is actually interested in Gothic music?
  3. Undead undead... Thanks, I think though I will probably have to get this stuff published and out before I can get too many people seriously interested in playing. Right now I just need another guitarist and I can start booking shows. Now finding similar bands to play with is another story...
  4. Looking for musicians interested in performing in a new project I am currently recording tracks for. Particularly need a decent guitarist. Style is in the vein of Sisters of Mercy, Nosferatu, Fields of the Nephilim etc. Want to start bringing a darker sound to the Michigan scene. Have unfinished recordings and tabs to share if interested. Planning to release a 4 track ep and start booking shows this fall/winter.
  5. I see what you're saying Joey, but to me, part of dark culture is the image. If life truly imitates art, then the aesthetics we surround ourselves with shape our consciousness and actions. Personally the trappings and cliches are something I find beautiful. Didn't paint my bedroom black so I could get my goth card, I just like the way it looks. But yes, I do think it is off putting to many people, I hear so many complaints about hipsters and scenesters etc. IDC what someone looks like however I do draw the line when it comes to musicians. Why go see someone perform live if they can't create a visual image to match their music? Might as well pop in a cd at home. Most importantly though, I see this HUGE schizm between people who play instruments and people who push the play button on their laptops. Detroit has a big scene for synths, fruity loops, and drum machines. Where are the people making dark music around here who pick up a guitar? To me that is the core of the dichotomy of industrial/synthpop vs goth/post punk. I would love to see an actual goth/post punk music (by that I mean performance not just djs spinning) alive in the USA.
  6. Goth is dead, undead undead. I didn't read this entire thread because it's rather long and I'm impatient. What I have to add is that something is only dead if you let it be. Some of you are contributing, to that I thank you, some not. All I can say is, pick up a guitar, start a band or at least request a song... keep it alive in act. I've been to K17 in Berlin, and Slimelight in London. To tell you the truth, I still like CC better for atmosphere. Of course nothing beats WGT though. To get to the point; I'm planning to start booking shows this summer with some music I'm recording after I find another guitarist for live sets. Hopefully there will be some local acts to play with that are also dark but I'm not holding my breath. Michigan will have a proper goth scene when we give it one.
  7. wow what an awesome list. I had a really good time that night and there seemed to be a good turn out as well. Hope this isn't the last old school night we will see
  8. Had a good time and what a great playlist. Looking at it now, it have so much variety, the spice of life, who thought?
  9. Hey, what are you doing with yourself now, it has been forever!!

  10. That map made me laugh. There should be some Xs by the bar for treasure and the ballroom area should be labeled, Here be monsters!
  11. For once I have nothing to do that night and don't have to be up Thursday night, considering coming down.
  12. I need to come by some night your djing and I don't have to be up early the next day... Yeah, it'll happen eventually lol. Also need to get out of Genesee county so such things arnt a pain in the ass.
  13. Jasmine and rose by clan of xymox Or pretty much any paralysed age songs.
  14. Pornography was and is considered pretty goth. As to the rest of their discography, well most bands never stay in just one genre, even ones who shit bats. Anyhow, it doesn't really matter who comes to the club, hipsters or thugs, it is up to the DJs and venue to create a theme, atmosphere and promote subcultures. As long as they arn't playing much hipster music it doesn't matter.
  15. I had a great time, so did my friend who I brought, only his second time there. Not sure why but I've never had anyone bother me there besides sometimes the staff can be rude, but it's easy to get over them fast. There's hipsters??? I keed but honestly they arnt that noticeable IMO. The one dude in the leather who just stands at the bar is nice enough.
  16. I think her music is great but we might have some disagreement on the deffinition of "rock". I've never heard her use guitars or an acoustic style drum set, though I haven't browsed the full discography. Chiasm falls pretty safely in the electronic genre.
  17. Been trying to get SS played at City years... :/
  18. Oh I don't know... Maybe something like the Mission show in london in October with the Nephilim and gene loves jezebel. Why can't we have any good dark culture shows in michigan or anywhere within a 300 mile radius. I would almost settle for anything where the band members actually play their instruments. Every combichrist video I see the dude is playing the drums inaudibly while all you hear is a drum loop. I'm not sure why its not just a singer and one guy pressing play on his laptop. Anyways I might go if anything to just meet people and have fun. I want to see EC.
  19. Hey thanks, nice meeting you the other night. I don't have the details nailed down yet but hopefully it will turn out well.

  20. I've always felt that people are more attracted to the idea of a celebrity than the person themselves. I'm a guy, yeah the lower half of me is attracted to all sorts of things, but at the end of the day, having never met anyone pictured on this page, I'm into people, not ideas...
  21. I'm definitely making my own... I'm thinking 3 + 1 cover for the ep. Just for fun mostly, that and sometimes I genuinely like the covered versions better. At least I feel that in the case of most Joy Division, while ground breaking, was hindered by audio shortcomings... It's evident from their live recordings that many of their album versions ended up not achieving the same effect they were going for live, weren't as heavy for example, yet only those lucky enough to see them ever got to experience that sound they were really going for. Not a big fan of Skinny Puppy besides that, or much other electronic stuff really. I think covers are a good starting point for many groups. I've been to shows before where I had never heard of the musicians so I didn't know what to listen for in their music. After going home I may listen to their albums and realize they are amazing but just didn't know the songs to follow them at the show. Sometimes a cover can help to give you an idea of what a band is doing sonicly when you don't know them yet. It's kind of like making a familiar dish for someone to entice them to try some of your more experimental cooking. I like your suggestions and agree with what you say, great songs but not too recognizable. The Promise could sound really good with a baritone voice like mine but it looks like it's been done a few times, not sure it needs to be done again.
  22. Ok now I know I must be getting old because my first concern after how terrible the music and video were was why all those kids were riding in that car without seatbelts on.
