  1. THE HEX! I miss them so much! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kcec-YQB5k&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyJvztP9Teo
  2. I'm always playing around with the idea of doing a "Batcave" aka early positive punk/goth/deathrock night on the side, but there isn't enough interest or passion for me to do it anymore. So all of my Blood & Roses, UK Decay, Sex Gang, Rubella Ballet and Specimen records and CDs sit at home. :(
  3. Hello and Welcome! Coming from NYC, neato, did you ever check out Home Sweet Home for the Wierd parties? My name is Justin, I run the minimal-synth/coldwave/darkwave/early ebm/italo disco/post-punk event Something Cold as mentioned above! We're a "monthly event", but usually have several partied within a month. I'm hosting the Salem/Silk Flowers show on March 16th along with a friend, for example. I play a wide spectrum of "cold and dark" music, ranging from stuff like X-Mal Deutschland to Snowy Red to even dark "italo-disco" stuff like Waxenia or Kirlian Camera. Check out and follow www.facebook.com/somethingcold for info and news! I hope to see you out sometimes! Detroit doesn't have a "goth night" proper as of right now, there have been a few in the past, but as aforementioned nights like Retro Noir/Noir Skye, Plastic Passion and even Something Cold occasionally play old goth tracks. Deathrock you don't hear a lot of around Detroit, sans for certain punk spots that will occasionally drop a 45 Grave song.
  4. You guys did a fantastic job, the turnout was very strong for a first night and the sound and atmosphere were all superb! The music was varied and all tied in effortlessly by both Marc and Anthony. I will be looking forward to each coming up one. Congrats on the Metro Times mention! :O The absinthe there was a lot more classy than the absinthe that usually gets carried into SC and poured out of a Power Water bottle and a few packets of sugar. hahahah!
  5. That Iggy Pop cover kicked as did the rest of their set. They were so Latin American before the show, bumping and grinding on eachother against the stage to me playing Ende Shneafliet. It was hot. hahaha!
  6. GREAT TURNOUT LAST NIGHT. Holy shit. And I left with a serious hard-on for that venue, I'm going to try and move SC there as a monthly. Or just whenever I need a good venue.
  7. This is tomorrow, heres the facebook page for more info! http://www.facebook.com/?sk=messages#!/event.php?eid=162254243822412
  8. Industrial pre-dates punk's broad emergence by a few years. Same with electronic music in general. Industrial sought to destroy not just rock and roll but music in general.
  9. MINKS is awesome. Captured Tracks records is a brilliant label. Half of their discography is on constant rotation at Something Cold. Cosmetics, Soft Metals, Blank Dogs, Further Reductions, etc!
  10. North America has a very plentiful post-punk scene too. Channel 3x4, Automelodi, Silk Flowers, Mika Miko, These are Powers, Ancient Crux (anything on Family Time records), Rapid Youth, Ariel Pink, Blank Dogs, Crocodiles, Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls, MINKS, Eat Skull, Factums, Kurt Vile, Woods, Mi Ami, etc x 10000. US has better goth bands too, especially out on the Northwest coast!
  11. This is really hard, especially where each scene stands nowadays. I can't really be arsed with punk much nowadays, unless it's art school post-punk stuff, ala Orange Juice or anarcho stuff like Zounds or Flowers in the Dustbin. Goth is kind of stale right now, but I'm going to say Goth/Punk because that's what I grew up on. But I'd prefer to and will continue to support analog electronics and the vibrant minimal-synth scene nowadays.
  12. FROM BERLIN TO DETROIT! Something Cold and Blind Prophet Records are excited to announce MUERAN HUMANOS debut in Detroit! Originally from Buenos Ares and now based out of Berlin, Mueran Humanos couple driven energy echos past greats like Chris Carter & Cosey Fanni Tutti. Their sound is a wide range of krautrock beats to analog synth-wave with a stripped down Detroit garage rock spirit. ...Detroit's own NYC transplants and label-mates, YOU., will be joining them with Divorce Party (Ann Arbor) + Aphasiacs (Detroit). THIS SHOW WILL BE FILMED FOR A DOCUMENTARY! Mueran Mumano's European film crew will be filming their US tour! Come out and show them a Detroit party! FEBRUARY 18TH 10PM - LATE BAKERY LOFT 4303 W VERNOR DETROIT, MI All Ages $5 DJ JUSTIN CARVER + MATTE BLACK spinning the coldest and darkest minimal-synth, coldwave, early ebm, death disco and dark electronics all evening. "Mueran Humanos’ seductive dirge sounds like the missing link between La Dusseldorf and a squadron of cadaverous 4AD artists, or Indian Jewelry performing a macabre tango, like black raven wings spreading from a shadowy corner in your messy bedroom, dark bliss palpitates alluring hidden inside a shroud of cobwebs, perhaps 20JFG’s new favourite band for days of torrential rain and wind whistling malevolent against the rattling windows of the decaying Victorian manor where we dwell despondent." 20jazzfunkgreats
