The Grand Canadian Steampunk Explosion
gladcarrot replied to Simon Bar Sinister's topic in Nightlife, Events & Concerts
I'd really like to see Abney Park so I put this on my calendar. I really wish that band would go on tour and not just play Steampunk conventions. -
I'm not sure if I want to see them ever again. Last time they played here, at the Token Lounge a few years ago, most of us walked out of the show after a couple of songs. The Kaiser was drunk off his ass and couldn't even play. He kept walking off stage and disappearing. Vas Kallas looked super annoyed and did the best she could to keep things going during his absence. I taped the show (at least what I stayed for) and it's one of the few bootlegs I didn't share because it was an embarrassing performance. They didn't even bring a live drummer with them. Hanzel und Gretyl has put on some amazing performances when I saw them open for Manson and Ministry and a couple of headlining shows over the years, but that last performance was unacceptable. Unfortunately, they only have one show before Detroit (tomorrow in Cleveland) so it will be difficult to find out what kind of show they put on this tour before Saturday. If anybody can find out before doors open, please let us know.

Iced Earth in town... again
gladcarrot replied to Carpe Mortem's topic in Nightlife, Events & Concerts
Going. -
It was 1993 and I heard NIN's Wish for the first time, oddly enough during the MTV Music Video Awards. It was played during the "Best Action Sequence" category for the Alien^3 lead furnace scene. I was really intrigued by that song and borrowed Broken and fell in love. A friend lent me Psalm 69 and the Wax Trax 13th Anniversary 3 CD set and I was hooked on industrial from that point forward. I too went backward through history and forced myself to listen to Throbbing Gristle and SPK just so I could really appreciate and understand the genre.

Here is my recording from last night complete with commentary below. Enjoy! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QEBT0U5E Front Line Assembly May 30, 2011 (technically May 31) The Shelter Detroit, Michigan "Industrial Movement III" opening acts: Eprom Colony Cyanotic Dismantled DJ? Acucrack setlist: 00 "Check check, Eminem's in the House." 01 intro 02 I.E.D 03 Circuitry 04 Angriff 05 Resist 06 Release 07 Plasticity 08 Prophecy 09 Shifting Through the Lens 10 Millenium 11 encore break 12 Liquid Separation 13 Bio-Mechanic Die Krupps was suppossed to be on the bill but had visa trouble. I got to the venue close to 10:00 becuase I was trying to avoid having to see a bunch of opening bands only to find out that the first of five "bands" just took the stage! FLA wasn't scheduled to take the stage until 12:15am but it wasn't until 1:10am that they did. This was the latest headlining show I have ever seen and was totally unacceptable and unprofessional to play so late on a week night. I was at the same venue a couple months ago and the men's bathroom flooded the hallway. Did they fix it? No, they did not. The Shelter is in the basement of a nicer venue, St. Andrews Hall which was not being used that night. Why didn't they use the nicer venue? We had a lot of rain last week and it felt like we were in a hot, wet, smelly, basement. About a third of all concert goers stayed outside most of the time. The door to the Shelter is in an alley right next to a pair of dumpsters which were sitting in puddles of garbage water. Nasty place. To quote Bill Leeb; "As you can see, we've been reduced to the basement. The basement of shit, puke, and piss, the toilets, the filth, the dirt and no air. Oh well, that's how it goes in this business." Eprom Colony was a decent enough local band who are appearantly going to be opening for three more national acts this summer. For whom I don't know because they have virtually no online presence and have not updated their Facebook page since 2009. [edit: they do in fact have a current Facebook page, Google brings you to a different and older FB page for the band. They need to delete the older one and allow people to become fans and not friends] I'd be happy to see them again. Cyanotic and Dismantled were not bad but both are very generic and unremarkable. This was the same weekend as the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and Fatboy Slim was playing just down the street. That might explain the late show because I saw a flyer saying FLA was a DEMF afterparty. By the time DJ? Acucrack took the stage, it was already after midnight. They crowd, especially me, was not really in the mood for a DJ. For the record, DJ? Acucrack is the most pathetic excuse for a live show I have ever seen and unfortunately, I have seen him more than twice now. If I wanted to see a DJ spin, I would have gone to DEMF, not FLA. Front Line came on after 1:00 am and thankfully put on a good show. They too seemed annoyed with the situation and they crowd that remained really got into the show. Keyboardist, Jeremy Inkel, kept yelling that he couldn't hear us which was kind of annoying since we were all dancing along and having a good time despite the shitty venue and time. It was my fourth time seeing FLA, six if you count Delerium Front Line Assembly (currently) is: Bill Leeb Chris Peterson Jeremy Inkel Jared Slingerland Duration: 73:57 Recorder: Sharp MD SR60 Mic: Sony ECM-DS70P Lineage: MD --> Audacity --> WAV (44,100 Hz, 16 bit, mono) --> Switch --> mp3 320 kbps FLAC or CD available upon request. Here is a recording of the Covenant show in Pontiac. Enjoy. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1GDWII8A -
Thanks Simon! I appreciate the info. $70 for me and my wife to go see a couple DJs. Hmmm, still on the fence....
-
Nice. How much? Paxahau has a remarkably poor website.

Tickets to this event are $60!!! You cannot buy single day tickets either. I have a feeling this is the last year of DEMF. It's the only Hart Plaza event that's not free and they jack up the prices every year. I was going to go on Saturday to see Josh Wink and Plastikman, but not for $60. What a bunch of crap. One of the coolest things in the city is officially ruined.

Covenant :: MODERN RUIN:: N. American tour 2010
gladcarrot replied to DJ Saint's topic in Nightlife, Events & Concerts
Anyone know if there are openers or what time Covenant takes the stage? I get off work at 8:30 in Ann Arbor and want to try and make it to the show tonight. Thanks! -
http://www.myspace.com/16volt Detroit is not always making the list of tour stops anymore. I saw 16 Volt and Chemlab several times in the 90s here and would love to see them again, but I'm not traveling to see them. In the past year I've had to drive to Cleveland to see Nitzer Ebb; Chicago for Throbbing Gristle; Toronto for Massive Attack. Depeche Mode skipped Detroit too! I guess bands think nobody here has a job anymore and can afford concert tickets.

Bummer. Thanks for noticing it closed. They should post that on the top of their site! I might have realized that had I not been looking at it in a very small browser window to avoid getting caught using the internet at work. I also couldn't find a goth club in Portland, Seattle, or Vancouver. Found one in LA, Chicago, and Atlanta though. Thanks for that link jynxxxedangel!

I'm driving to Toronto on Friday for the Massive Attack concert and I like to check out goth clubs in other cities. Has anyone been to Savage Garden? It seems like my best option for Friday. http://www.savagegarden.ca/

Bummer. It's the same night as Reverend Horton Heat. -
Has anyone seen the video clip surface which was taken with the camera borrowed from one of the fans? It was passed around the stage for like 5 minutes near the end of the concert. There's an audio recording now of the show on Dimeadozen. mp3 version http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5NWS4ESD

MARCH 17th VNV NATION LIVE CONCERT AT THE NECTO
gladcarrot replied to Jinx's topic in Nightlife, Events & Concerts
Got my ticket. I work in Ann Arbor so it will be nice to not have to hurry to Pontiac or Detroit to see a show! -
Just by chance I went to Hanzel Und Gretyl's website yesterday and saw they will be in Bowling Green at the Sky Bar on Saturday night. I think they skipped Detroit their last tour so this is their closest show in a few years. http://www.skybarbg.com/
