  1. S a t u r d a y , M a r c h 3rd , 2 0 1 2 d e t r o i t --- p a r a n o r m a l -- s o c i e t y presents.. Metaphysical Funk™®. f e a t u r i n g The Flashbulb™. [* f e a t - i m p r o v i s e d - m i d i - g u i t a r - l i v e +++ *] [LIVE PA! Alpha Basic | Rephlex, Chicago - Electronica, IDM] www.theflashbulb.net An appropriate biography for Benn Jordan (the man behind The Flashbulb, Flexe, Q-bit, Acidwolf, and countless other pseudonyms) would be in the form of a stock ticker constantly scrolling up to date information on his multiple careers and endeavors. He is well known around the world in electronica for his abrasive trademarks multiplied with a level of diversity that makes just about anyones head spin. His catalog of releases is so extensive and obscure that there is no place on the internet that can accurately and completely list them. It also seems that Benn has replaced sleeping with film composing, and has recently mirrored his accomplishments in the film industry. But dont be intimidated by his amount of work, the quality-for-quantity rule does not apply here. Pick any album out of this long discography and youll find that it has its own place, and sometimes its own genre. Benn Jordan was born in The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Georgia in 1978. At a young age he moved from an American Indian reservation to Chicago to live with his grandparents, and was fluent in music notation before his first day of grade school. By the time Benn was old enough to drive, he was not only teaching classical guitar, but he had also taken part in Chicagos explosive acid house and industrial scenes of the mid-nineties by releasing albums on obscure short-lived labels and lugging synthesizers into parties instead of turntables. In live performances, The Flashbulb often raises the laptop performers bar by bringing midi guitars and foot-controlled heavy effect units along with him on tour. The occasional show brings the audience a vivid stage presence, but most of the time Benn shyly concentrates on his performance hidden behind gear, occasionally peeping out and smiling when applauded. That same timidity is often applied in almost all aspects of Jordans career. He rarely accepts interviews or media photographs, and in the few times words or his voice have appeared in his recordings, it is often verbally unrevealing or camouflaged behind effects processing. However luckily for his listeners, Jordan possesses the talent to make his instruments flawlessly speak for whatever emotion he wants to portray, be it sadness, happiness, rage, or just sheer technical boredom. [interdimensional Transmissions, Detroit. electro, techno.] www.interdimensionaltransmissions.com/ Ectomorph occupy an unique and strange place within Detroit Techno history. Founded in 1994 as a reaction to DBX, Basic Channel, Rob Hood, Sähkö and Drexciya, they released their first singles in 1995 as an attempt to make Detroit music for Detroit itself, not exclusively for export. The mystique of their early singles led to mythic status and a strong underground cult following, which they have continued to develop through releases on their own Interdimensional Transmissions label as well as remixes on many high profile labels and projects like "Shari Vari" and the Dirtbombs. Their live shows are legendary for their ability to fluidly incorporate improvisational techniques into their synthesized music (and for the sheer amount of analog equipment that they bring). BMG has worked in audio engineering and production ranging from mastering the first Ghostly projects to producing Wolf Eyes' Sub Pop albums while Erika runs erika.net, one of the internet's first freeform radio stations. 2. Well Steve Stoll is legendary without a doubt, not to mention Woody McBride. at the Martin Atkins megalomaniac comment.. lol, maybe a little. As far as the hardly legendary comment, well I guess that would depend on what you consider validates one being "legendary". If it were based on his accomplishments, then one would certainly put him up as a candidate here at least. Former ember of PiL (Public Image Ltd) which of course was the group The Sex Pistols broke into after their break up, Killing Joke, Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails. Founder of industrial supergroup Pigface, The Damage Manual, and Murder Inc. Collaborated with Skinny Puppy on the Rx project. World renowned producer. Author of the best selling industry book "TourSmart" with guests like Henry Rollins etc, CEO of Invisible Records & Mattress Factory Recording Studios (est. 1988). Author of countless production software programs etc etc.. Maybe not the in your face, on your tv star.. but major part of the industry since the wee days. Him and Steve Stoll melting minds is nuclear imo. Anyways, thanks for the positive comment overall man. Hope to see you there!
  3. ----- biography ----- STEVE STOLL (the Blunted Boy Wonder himself live! - aka Gaiden, Dark Man etc..) ProperNYC -Novamute -Music Man -Synewave. 2HR LIVE PA Alongside names like Joey Beltram, Steve Stoll would easily rank amongst the "most important techno figures to EVER emerge from NYC" shortlist. In fact, Steve has lived one of the most profilitic & influential careers in techno history. Never settling for the norm, Steve has always came through with a refreshing unflinching style that is undeniably "Stoll". Steve's extensive discography feels like reading a book, beefed up with remixes from close friends Cari Lekebusch & Damon Wild to fellow staple artists such as Speedy J, The Advent, Joey Beltram, & Hardfloor just to name a few - not to mention he has personally remixed everyone from Gary Numan to DJ Rush. Steve has had the pleasure of playing for crowds all over the world from Europe to Asia at some of the biggest clubs and festivals including I Love Techno, Fuse, Omen, Cocoon, Tresor, Mayday, Love Parade, 10 Days of Techno, Mt. Fuji to name a few. Besides all these accomplishments, he is also the founder & owner of staple techno labels "proper n.y.c." & "212 productions" amongst various sub-labels. Steve's unique sound / productions brought him to global fame & have always caught the ears & eyes of techno's biggest players. Stoll has been banging around the worldwide techno and electronic scene since the early '90s. His first 12" was released on Richie Hawtin's Probe imprint. Since that time, Stoll has followed standard techno artist protocol by changing labels, handles and partners only slightly less often than his synth patches. His recordings can be found under Steve Stoll, Dark Man, Mr. Proper, Gaiden, Acid Farm, Ausgang, Datacloud and of course his most famous moniker the "Blunted Boy Wonder", and on a countless range of labels including Mute (London), Music Man (Belgium), Synewave (Poland) and his own label, Proper NYC (just to name a few). Recently Stoll has been more busy than ever, remixing non stop while developing his own hardware company "Proper Boy" (producing items like custom feedback looping pedals, effects processors etc), not to mention working as a Software developer for Ableton Live. Besides his busy remix schedule, in 2008 Stoll released two new experimental full lengths albums on Fax Records (Germany) amongst a slew of new releases. In 2009 he released an album showcasing his new Ambient project with Jeff Green titled "Tangled" on staple Ambient label Databolem, however he didn't stop there. Later that same year Steve released another full length album featuring 10 tracks titled "Windows to the World" which gained international success, multiple releases including "Proper Dub Plates" on his own imprint Proper NYC, a rework of the classic 212 productions release "Handiwork" feat remix work by Cari Lekebusch, not to mention his phenomenal remix of Little Nobody's "Robota" amongst a slew of other others. As you may have guessed 2010 has shown no sign of slowing down either, Steve is currently knee deep in the studio while also spending time in Chicago working with Martin Atkins (ministry/revolting cocks/nine inch nails) on a new to be released project & following tour. Don't miss Stoll on the peak of his hot streak at this rare Detroit appearance!
  4. Steve Stoll has worked with many gods of the Industrial World on techno/industrial hybrids over the years, not just Atkins now. Anyone on here ever hear of Gaiden..? (STEVE STOLL & Patrick Codenys of FRONT 242) Put out a few full length albums, worldwide success, had a SPEEDY J remix to boot.
  5. SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCE BY HOUSE OF LIES DURING STOLL'S LIVE SET. H.O.L. = STEVE STOLL, NICK MEADE (Negative Red) & THE LEGENDARY MARTIN ATKINS (PiL, Ministry, Pigface, NIN etc), YEAH.
