I read it was purchased by marketing firm "Mindfield," (I think someone posted a link here on DGN, actually) but hadn't heard anything more since last summer. Thank you for the updates! Nienna
Yes! I read it was purchased by marketing firm "Mindfield," (I think someone posted a link here on DGN, actually) but hadn't heard anything more since last summer. Thank you for the updates! This makes me soooo happy! I've always loved this building best of all. Every time I come to City Club I pause to gaze at it. I'm so relieved to hear that someone is honoring it's history and the beautiful architecture by restroing it in a proper way and revitalizing the space for current business. I wish more of this would happen in Detroit instead of tear downs...
Destroit
As much as I love decay and watching things break down, I hate when the building isn't "there" anymore. It really wrecks me, more than something made of brick and mortar really should. I remember feeling sad when they tore down Cass Tech, having never explored it while abandoned. I got depressed watching them tear down the Statler, same story. I was there when they took down the Madison-Lenox, I even have a brick from it floating around my house, that causes house guests to ask "Why the fuck does your weird ass have a random brick?" Nice conversational piece . So, although I'm lamenting the fact that now I will have never gotten to "explore" the GAR in the state I'd enjoy it to be in, I am glad that they're at least rehabilitating it instead of just tearing the beast down. It's one of the oldest buildings still standing in the city. If I weren't so rusty on Detroit history now, I'd actually be willing to bet that it's the oldest standing that isn't a church.
