What bands would you consider the best "Gothic, EBM, etc" bands of the 80's and 90's?

Two decades of bands: that’s A LOT of ground to cover! Less debatable are the primary record labels that spawned this scene, how about those? Here were some of my popular favorites. Look at their back catalogues on Discogs.com and sample a few random groups. You'll find that more than 80% of their artists were really good.

4AD

Wax Trax!

Nettwerk

Mute

Some Bizzare

Third Mind

Play It Again Sam

Contempo

Beggars Banquet

World Serpent

Personally, I could never stand their stuff (save for maybe Love Spirals Downwards and Lycia), but the label Projekt was very popular in the 90s, too.

Considering goth's biggest output and time frame was between 1979-1988ish, that's a lot of ground to cover. Same with EBM...

Goth/Deathrock/Batcave:

Sex Gang Children

UK Decay

Bauhaus

Blood & Roses

Brigandage

Actified

Theatre of Hate

Southern Death Cult

Christian Death

45 Grave

Virgin Prunes

Sisters of Mercy

Gloria Mundi

Rosetta Stone

Children on Stun

The Horatii

Wreckage

Specimen

Alien Sex Fiend

Inca Babies

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry

1919

Burning Image

Supeheriones

Gun Club

EBM:

Neon Judgement

Front 242

Cabaret Voltaire

DAF

Portion Control

Click Cick

Absolute Body Control

A Split Second

Nitzer Ebb

à;GRUMH

Zwischenfall

There wasn't much EBM activity in the 90's...

Bigod 20...uhh...Weathermen? Unless you want to mislabel VNV Nation-y futurepop stuff EBM...which then you'd be wrong, buster!

You forgot Rough Trade and Industrial Records!

Anagram and London records are good calls too.
