What do you miss?

I miss the old days of City Club.  :O:R:I:G:I:N: is fun but I know it will never be like it used to.  Most of the people with any good taste have moved on.

I should probably just rename it "Project Sisyphus."

I know Origin doesn't have the number of people that the old City used to but it's getting there. People grow up or grow out of it. A few people stick around in a scene but most people eventually leave. But new people then join the group to give it life again. We need more young people to go. It can't be like it used to but it can still be fun. I'm grateful to have it at all. No other place feels like home like City does.

Mephisto's did for a time.  Although the layout was odd and after working a few nights it felt like my legs wanted to fall off taking care of this and that across three floors, it was worth it.  I'm honestly not sure which I liked more.  Probably City when the structure still existed...  Yeah, City <3

Since I am relatively new to City Club (circa 2012), what was "the structure"?

I miss when the time stamp used to appear in the name bar after you made a post. Since I basically use DGN as a daily schedule/diary/to do list, it made it easier to see what time I took care of certain business.

The Structure was a parking structure which some people would hang out in all night and never go into the actual "club."

Security didn't give a shit and neither did we really.  One of the overhead I-beams would host the empties of all the "pre-gaming" that people would do and that was actually a bit impressive.  I think that either one of the casino's bought it and tore it down so people would park at their establishment, or DTE tore it down because it was an old eyesore and they like the current vacant lot that is doing nothing better.

I miss all of my old settings and DATA!!!

  • 10 years of Windows XP settings got lost to Windows 10 on December 17, 2016.
  • December 23, 2016, Google Chrome backdated all of my 200+ Bookmarks to 23 Bookmarks from April of 2010 because apparently that was the last time I "Signed In".
  • My Verizon SIM Card lost 4 years of text messages to the latest forced upgrade on January 19, 2017.
  • 9 years of My Herbalife Volume Points Tracking account got replaced by the new Herbalife Charter Preferred Member Total Points Scale on January 23, 2017 allowing me to only see one year of current Points obtained to maintain my current status.

For a person, such as myself, who lives by statistical data, this is devastating!!!  I do know that with time, the majority of my setting can be reset or replaced with updated version, but at this time, I have effectively lost 10 years of personalized information in about one month's time!

This is an invaluable (free) tool that I've recovered many files with.  As long as nothing has overwritten those sectors on the drive "deleted" files can be recovered.  The data is still there, it's just marked as writable free space in the partition table.

Thank you for the link it will be put to good use.  Fortunately for me, I had an extra hard drive to load Windows 10 on.  So all of my previous data and settings are still available on the original C drive which is now my E drive.  It has just been a slow process getting the basics reset to my liking.  I won't really be able to dedicate time to it until after I've finished filing the final paperwork of the season.  Due to upgrades, my court/guardian/payee/affidavit reports and property taxes were thrown off by one month.  As of today, I am on the last of all my legal requirements.

Yay me...

Well, if you still have your old user directory from XP, all your chrome settings are in fact saved.  Copying them over is actually fairly simple if you know how.

http://www.wintips.org/how-to-import-and-export-your-bookmarks-in-google-chrome/

So basically you just take the chrome data directory and copy it over the current one.  Note that you'll obviously lose anything saved since starting over so write down any passwords, bookmarks, or other important info saved in it.

Oh, I've also used testdisk on SIM cards to pull data off those (if you have an old one laying around, it MIGHT work.)  You just need a reader that will plug into the PC and those are fairly cheap.

Wish I had known about this when my old Verizon phone upgrade deleted over 6,000 photos in January of 2014, obliterating my memories of 2013.
