Songs That Make You Think of Someone

106 posts in this topic

This reminds me of my first major boyfriend, partly because the lyrics describe us pretty well (we were 16-18 while we were together), and partly because I listened to this album (Viva Hate) religiously at the time:

Morrissey: Break Up the Family

The strange logic in your clumsiest line

(It stayed emblazoned on my mind

You say, "break up the family

And let's begin to live our lives"

I want to see all my friends tonight

It wasn't Youth, it wasn't Life

Born Old, sadly wise

Resigned (well, we were)

To ending our lives

I'm so glad to grow older

To move away from those awful times

I want to see all my friends tonight

Yes, you found love, but you weren't

At peace with your life

Home late, full of hate

Despise the ties that bind

I'm so glad to grow older

To move away from those younger years

I'm in love for the first time

And I don't feel bad

Let me see all my old friends

Let me put my arms around them

Cause I really do love them

Now does that sound mad?

Captain of games, solid framed

I stood on the touchline

Hailstones, driven home

In a car - no brakes? I don't mind

I'm so glad to grow older

To move away from those darker years

I'm in love for the first time

And I don't feel bad

So wish me luck my friends

Goodbye

So wish me luck again

Goodbye

Wish me luck my friends

Goodbye

Mmm... wish me luck, my friends

Goodbye

Ahh...

Ahh...

(I think this is my favorite thread. That probably makes me a nerd.)

Sufjan Stevens: For the Widows in Paradise, For the Fatherless in Ypsilanti

I have called you children, I have called you son

What is there to answer if I'm the only one?

Morning comes in Paradise, mourning comes in light

Still I must obey, still I must invite

If there's anything to say

If there's anything to do

If there's any other way, I'll do anything for you

I was dressed embarrassment, I was dressed in wine

If you had a part of me, will you take your time?

Even if I come back, even if I die

Is their some idea to replace my life?

Like a father to impress

Like a mother's mourning dress

If you ever make a mess, I'll do anything for you

I have called you preacher, I have called you son

If you have a father or if you haven't one.

I'll do anything for you (4X)

I did everything for you (8X)

(edited because he means wine not whine)

This is Wolfsheim song ( sung In German) called Kein Zuruck

or in English (No way Turning back)

actully the Video for this get me becuase Its about a girl leaving the nut house and her strugles aftarwards ( I was in this situation a few times)

German Original Lyrics

Weißt du noch, wie's war

Kinderzeit... wunderbar...

Was auch immer jetzt getan,

well I cannot find the English lyrics but Ill get back to you on this

Also Morissey "The more you ignore me , the closer I get. "

The more you ignore me

The closer I get

You're wasting your time

The more you ignore me

The closer I get

You're wasting your time

I will be

In the bar

With my head

On the bar

I am now

A central part

Of your mind's landscape

Whether you care

Or do not

Yeah, I've made up your mind

The more you ignore me

The closer I get

You're wasting your time

The more you ignore me

The closer I get

You're wasting your time

Beware !

I bear more grudges

Than lonely high court judges

When you sleep

I will creep

Into your thoughts

Like a bad debt

That you can't pay

Take the easy way

And give in

Yeah, and let me in

Oh, let me in

Oh let me ...

Oh, let me in

IT'S WAR

IT'S WAR

IT'S WAR

IT'S WAR

IT'S WAR

WAR

WAR

WAR

WAR

Oh, let me in

Ah, the closer I get

Ah, you're asking for it

Ah, the closer I get

Ooh, the closer I ...

Here's a song that reminds me of a friend that isn't around anymore. A lot of it fits the way I look at myself sometimes. And yes, it's a country song. I'm not always the best at being goth, I've realized.

"You're Gone"

by Diamond Rio

I said hello I think I'm broken

And though I was only jokin'

It took me by surprise when you agreed

I was tryin' to be clever

For the life of me I never

Would have guessed how far the simple truth would lead

You knew all my lines

You knew all my tricks

You knew how to heal that pain

No medicine can fix

And I bless the day I met you

And I thank God that He let you

Lay beside me for a moment that lives on

And the good news is I'm better

For the time we spent together

And the bad news is you're gone

Lookin' back it's still surprisin'

I was sinking you were rising

With a look you caught me in mid-air

Now I know God has His reasons

But sometimes it's hard to see them

When I awake and find that you're not there

You found hope in hopeless

Your made crazy sane

You became the missing link

That helped me break my chains

And I bless the day I met you

And I thank God that He let you

Lay beside me for a moment that lives on

And the good news is I'm better

For the time we spent together

And the bad news is you're gone

The bad news is you're gone

Black Lodge By Anthrax

Worship the ground you barely walk on

You give of yourself but your angels are gone

Deny your body is screaming

But your heart and your soul they're bleeding

Just to fall asleep is a godsend

Until your demons appear again

I am a witness to your demise

Your biggest secret is one you can't keep

Lift up your head if you're only asleep

You try to hold onto reason

Why can't you see that you're leaving

My love for you knows no distance

But it can't fight your resistance

I am a witness to your demise

I am the one who saw through the lies

Give me,

The one thing you can't give

Take me to

The black lodge where you live

Deny your body is screaming

But your heart and your soul they're bleeding

Just to fall alseep is a godsend

Until your demons appear again

I am a witness to your demise

I am the one who saw through the lies

My love has always been blind

Queen ~ Spread Your Wings

Sammy was low just watching the show

Over and over again

Knew it was time he made up his mind

To leave his dead life behind

His boss said to him boy you'd better begin

To get those crazy notions right out of your head

Sammy who do you think that you are?

You should've been sweeping up the emerald bar

Spread your wings and fly away

Fly away far away

Spread your little wings and fly away

Fly away far away

Pull yourself together cuz you know you should do better

That's because you're a free man

He'd spend his evenings alone in his hotel room

Keeping his thoughts to himself he'd be leaving soon

Wishing he was miles and miles away

Nothing in this world nothing could make him stay

Since he was small he had no luck at all

Nothing came easy to him

Now it was time he'd made up his mind

This could be my last chance

His boss said to him now listen boy

You're always dreamng you've got no real ambition

You won't get very far

Sammy boy don't you know who you are?

Why can't you be happy at the emerald bar?

So spread your wings and fly away

Fly away far away

Spread your little wings and fly away

Fly away far away

Pull yourself together cuz you know you should do better

That's because you're a free man

Sloan ~ The Lines You Amend

Said you found a way to end it peacefully

I remember finding shoes near the lake under a tree

And I’m sitting by the shore

I thought I saw you jumping by

It doesn’t matter now because all you wanted to do was die

If only you’d stuck around

I know we’d made a sound

But now you’re on the ocean floor

And all you found was

A brand new door

Brand new door

Swimming out to sea trying to find something else

While I’m skipping stones and I’m listening to the shore

And I won’t forget you if someone else comes along

Found the words you wrote

But I would not dare to quote

My friends, the lines you amend

Like what’s so bad about dying anyway?

Swimming out to sea trying to find something else

While I’m skipping stones and I’m listening to the shore

And I won’t forget you if someone else comes along

You always come to mind when ever I hear that song

But what about photographs

Sung by Ringo Star

Especially in the chorus part

You always said now

Don’t you start

Don’t you start

Don’t you start

Don’t you start

Ok good. Now that I got myself thinking of it......I have too many damn ex's. I'm feeling rather bad about it. Kinda reflective in a sort of way. Maybe I should consider finding that one special woman. Naaaaaaaaa. :laughing

"You're Gone" by Diamond Rio

I can't even hear that song anymore without crying. A very close friend of mine (someone who I used to "see" before I dated Wayne) died in a car accident just 4 years ago. When we used to go out, I would force him to wear his seatbelt, or I wouldn't go at all. He always wore it to make me happy. He wasn't wearing it when he died. Before he passed, he told his dad "Brenda is gonna be so mad at me".

They played this song at his funeral. It was probably the most devastaing funeral I've ever been to. He was only 21.

And the good news is I'm better

For the time we spent together

And the bad news is you're gone

I can't look at this song anymore, either (apparently) :tear
