A reporter from the Oakland Press took our picture at RenFest and I actually posted it in my photo album.  That was the first time anything like that had ever happened.  The guy just automatically assumed we were in costume.

Minus the headdress, that was one of the outfits I had worn to a UofM Sorority Alumni Tea. 😁

I am at the point at Faire that I go every weekend and have garb comparable to cast maybe? get my photo taken semi regularly. It's kind of flattering, but since I am not on social media I rarely see any of them.😬😭

When I was in Japan, I flipped out when I saw that much of the stuff that I had seen in the everyday life of the characters from Ranma was real.  So are the 30 second rain showers followed by sunny skies.

I had wanted to do the Jet Program where Americans teach English to Japanese grade school students, but they felt I was too close to the age cutoff so I retuned to the U.S. after I finished my studies at JCMU.

I did a fan spoof art of the characters from Robotech way back when, but not much else.

If she doesn't mind, you could probably post her cosplay in the cosplay thread.

    OK...trying not to stay :offtopic:

    I'm done.

I think it would not be appropriate for me to share without her permission.  If I ever meet you in real live person I can show you what she's working on now for Youmacon.  It's quite amazing.

Well if you want some good newer series, The Expanse and The Orville are great, but I'm kind of a sci-fi nut so even the bad is good to me (usually).

Orville is great though as it's like a loveletter to Star Trek.  They do throw in a lot of jokes (especially in the first few episodes) but the writing is solid, and so the characters have substance and the stories are both episodic and seasonal.  It feels like Trek in all but name and that's amazing to me.  Even some of the Trek actors make guest appearances and from other franchises like Babylon 5 as well.

To keep on topic though, I'm adding M*A*S*H to my list too.  Let's just go ahead and do the entire lineup of Nick at Nite from around the mid 80s while we're at it.  Also I forgot RED DWARF because that shit is cheesy and great!  I also forgot old Doctor Who which I used to also see on PBS.

I've watched The Expense.  Excellent series!!  My go to series tends to be Sci-Fi and (foreign) Period Dramas or Dramadies.  I like quirky movies too.  Pretty much hate sitcoms with some exceptions.

I am not as much into it as my sister who has seen series I've never heard of.  And if she hasn't watched it, there is a good chance she read the Manga.

I got into Anime when Robotech used to air on TV after school and it just blossomed from there (because I didn't know Kimba and Astro Boy were Japanese Animations back then).  The first non-televised series I became obsessed with was Ranma 1/2.  People who had friends and/or family in Japan used to record various Anime series on videotape and shipped them back to the U.S.

Kyra has been into it since 6-ish years old. She learned Japanese in high school and college and plans to go to Japan next year to teach english when she finishes her degree.  She writes stories and fan fiction for series I’ve never heard of. (Which, to be fair, is most of them) She does gender-swapped cosplays.  Yup, she’s a little into it…

I collect antique jewellery, antique porcelain (mostly Dresden), antique stoneware (mostly Staffordshire and majolica), antique textiles, vintage clothing, vintage kitchenware, authentic primitives, antique books, and vintage Halloween / macabre items.

I also collect PDF books, video rips of rare VHS classics (from YT), clip art, and images of lots from high end auction catalogues (for my antique collecting references).

I'm sure there is something else.

You and I need to get back to talking again. I bought an old house in Detroit and slowly renovating/restoring/backdating it into something I can live in and use for my photo shoots. I want an old (though not what I would call period correct)  dark, somewhat  creepy vibe. Not too fancy.  I've been collecting appropriate objects from estate sales and antique places.  🙂

Some people like to be private about their photos/information so I treat everything as such and let them decide what they want to do with that content.  Though if they're really private about it they'll usually say so, and that was on the web before.  I still live by my code though.

I hear you. I have almost nothing in the cloud or online.  As much as I am able to control it.  There’s not a ton you can do about what companies do with your data other than minimizing what you give them in the first place. Or choosing not to shop online. The little bit of data that I need to sync between devices is encrypted so there’s not much chance of anyone getting any of that.  Dropbox is a temporary sharing thing for me, so the stuff I put there is generally very short term.

It's more of an outdated theme/update issue at this time.

Normally it hadn't been too much of a problem, but because updates are paused for the moment, it's currently difficult to find images that work across all 3 platforms: Desktop, Tablet, Phone.

This will hopefully be rectified in the near future and things can go back to "normal".

I will definitely be making a post in the DGN Updates/Upgrades 2023 thread once we are good to go.  But as for right now, we are kind of in Frankenstein mode. :hrhr:

    Aye, skipper!

Just get a really cheap USB and mail them on that.  Alternatively you could upload them in a zip file to your website (which if you're feeling fancy you can encrypt with a password) and then DM her the link.   That way you don't have to worry about any compression or dithering.

Unless they're just in .raw format, in which case she can just use something like The Gimp (which is free) to convert them.

They are in Raw but I also have a set of jpegs. If I need to share I usually use Dropbox.  Simple and secure enough for my needs. This is not anything that really needs high security.
